What colour is your bedroom?

Looking for ideas.

Not long moved into our new house and our bedroom is a white box (4.2 x 2.7). The previous owner white washed the place before putting it on the market so we're working with a blank canvas.

We have new bedroom furniture being delivered at the end of the month and want to have the room recarpeted and painted before it arrives.

Please help me decide on a colour scheme.

Mine is a very pale blue with a silvery carpet and white furniture. The room doesn’t get much natural light (east facing but blocked by an extension) so we wanted to keep it fairly bright and calm - I wouldn’t want too much pattern in a bedroom personally. We have a framed Turner print on one wall which ties into the blue and grey but it’s fairly minimalist otherwise!

Magnolia walls with white furniture and red curtains/duvet. It's a north facing room and feels cold. I need inspiration to warm it up and make it cosy!

SirenSays · 04/05/2023 00:27

A pale yellow. I needed something sunny otherwise I'd never get out of bed.

Pale lilac walls, rich plum colour curtains.
White carpet, wooden furniture.
Aged brass accents - the curtain poles, lights, electrical sockets.

KetoKitt · 04/05/2023 06:32

Black and white stripes with dark green accents.

Another Egyptian Cotton bedroom here. Same as the kitchen, living room, sitting room and hall, stairs, landing.

It's a very good neutral and goes well with yellows, pinks and greens (curtains). Carpet is a very light sand colour.

I'm a huge fan of lots of colour, but the whole house was painted in this when we moved in and it works well as a neutral.

willowstar · 04/05/2023 06:54

Cream with painted cream furniture and some darker furniture, all charity shop and second hand so they all sort of match but aren't a set or anything. White or neutral bedding, beige carpet and curtains and cream lampshades. A few colourful pieces of art on the walls.

I am usually very in to colour but the bedroom is very bright and neutral and I find it calming. Lying here with the sun streaming in the windows and it is uplifting. I couldn't imagine having a dark bedroom.

Pseudonamed · 04/05/2023 06:55

Grey. All shades but the entire room is grey.

MintJulia · 04/05/2023 07:02

Mine's soft sage green. Oatmeal carpets and lamp shades, cream sheepskin rugs. White bed linen.

Dark wood furniture, glass and crystal light fittings.

It has windows on three walls so lovely and sunny, apple trees outside, lots of birdsong. White voiles at the moment. I'm going to look for curtain material this weekend. 🙂

Dulux dusted fondant. If I were doing it again, I’d go for a similar colour but perhaps a little more earthy. But I think it’s still a very nice colour.

I have a dark red on the wall with the bed and the other walls are a dark cream colour. Deep red bedding and cream throws etc. Its a north facing room so needs the lighter colour not to feel oppressive - I repainted after I separated from my ex and I love it.

@SoFreshAndSoClean I think from what you say in your last post, I would keep the wall colour neutral and choose some nice things to go in the room to add the colour. Personally I love bringing in colour and character with art. I have Molesworth and Bird seaweed prints which tie in with the colour of the cushions on the bed and the blinds. It's very simple art and not fussy.

In terms of which neutral, that depends on the direction your room is facing. If it's south facing you can use a cooler tone (e.g. ammonite F&B)), but if it's north facing you may want a warmer tone (e.g. shaded white F&B). Skimming stone is always a good bet for an inoffensive neutral. It will also depend on the colour of the accents you want.

In summary, I would just paint it a neutral colour and add bits and pieces from there. I agree it's nice to have the walls painted before you move your furniture in, but I'm a fan of slow decorating. Theres no rush, take your time to add to the room and get the look you want!

F&B Farrows cream on 3 walls, William Morris tulips wallpaper on chimney breast wall, I would have liked the wallpaper on all four walls but at about £90 a roll I settled for one, even though the F&B paint was expensive it was still only about £70 for 3 walls.

Blanketpolicy · 04/05/2023 07:52

Dulux coastal grey - which is a light blue with grey tones, very happy with it. Bought the trade paint and it was so much easier to use.

MyMachineAndMe · 04/05/2023 16:55

Am I the only one who painted with B&Q's own brand paint rather than the expensive stuff like Farrow and Ball? I feel like I live in an alternate universe and everyone else's house looks like a hotel room.

Twospaniels · 04/05/2023 17:02

This sounds awful but actually is really nice, our bedroom is 22ft long and 14ft wide. We have a dormer window at one end and another window along the long side.
The walls are chocolate brown and the ceiling is a lighter brown (like latte coffee).
It really is lovely especially as we get the sun all afternoon and evening in the room.

What cream did you go for. I’m going for a similar colour scheme but looking for a cream /neutral colour for the walls.

Also n facing so needs light.
