How much would you by my bread for? (Pic attached)

Just a quick one! Trying to gauge how much I should sell for.
I have a small cake making business and I've always got bread on the go so to add it at a small cost isn't going to be any trouble. A few people have asked for loaves, and im unsure on how much I should charge for them.

How much would you pay for this?
(The gluten free option I do will have to be more expensive as it costs more)

Thank you!

Sorry for the typo!

They're usually about £4 for fresh bread, right? More for sourdough (which is more desireable, I think?).

SallyWD · 02/05/2023 14:52

£2.50

Assuming that it’s a standard size (500g flour?) white loaf rather than sourdough then about £3. Sourdough would be more like £4.50-£5 (South East).

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 02/05/2023 14:55

Looks like a pain white loaf, and an awkward shape tbh. £2.50? Much more for basket shaped sourdough and proper granary seeded.

frozendaisy · 02/05/2023 14:55

£3

frozendaisy · 02/05/2023 14:56

Actually I have paid more for less good looking bread but in a regular basis, loaf a week say, £3

IchVersteheNicht · 02/05/2023 14:57

It's a 500g white loaf for reference.

Im going to do sourdough too, I've just started feeding my starter.

I was thinking £2.50.
Re awkward shape, I can put it in a normal loaf tin, I just like the rounded shape (personal preference) but for the ones to sell will be the normal loaf shape.

Depends where you are selling (and to whom) - just back from the supermarket where an in store baked tiger loaf (900g) is £1.25. Olive bread and an ancient grains loaf were £2 each (both 400g). If I were at a farm shop or artisan market I'd pay a bit more but no more than £3.50.

ThisSingleMama · 02/05/2023 15:00

Just made in your own kitchen? Hygiene certificates etc?

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 02/05/2023 15:04

£3 I'd be happy paying. £3.50 I would buy it but would feel a bit overcharged and would buy less often.

Dodgeitornot · 02/05/2023 15:04

Nothing, sorry. It looks like a very simple bread out of a bread maker that's been a little overproofed. Nice present to bring to dinner at someone's house though.

Swellinyewing · 02/05/2023 15:23

£2.50, I would pay that and I love the shape of it.

mushroom3 · 02/05/2023 15:29

£2.50-3 depending on whether it's a sour dough loaf, good quality flour etc

inamarina · 02/05/2023 15:31

I actually quite like the look of it and would pay £2.50, maybe £3.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 02/05/2023 15:32

I don't like the shape, sorry! I wouldn't buy it, but I expect you could sell it for around £2-2.50 up here, maybe £3 at a wanky market (affluent part of Northern England).

SinisterKnitter · 02/05/2023 15:32

I am GF and wouldn't buy GF bread from someone who uses wheat flour in their kitchen. Far too great a risk for cross contact.

Changes17 · 02/05/2023 15:35

I pay £2.50 for a similar loaf (but loaf shaped) in the shop around the corner from my house. Used to be £2 but has gone up...

Xrays · 02/05/2023 15:35

Local farm shops here sell homemade bread for about £3 (Norfolk).

HanSB · 02/05/2023 15:37

Maybe £2.50 but I wouldn't buy a hand-made plain white loaf usually. I would prefer a proper sourdough or seeded option if buying something hand-made. Also gluten-free sounds a bit risky if made in a kitchen that deals with flour regularly, like your cakes and usual bread options. I would check the regulations if you can even label as gluten-free as I imagine that they are fairly strict.

Same

C2190 · 02/05/2023 15:41

Looks delicious, perfect with lots of butter and a nice big bowl of homemade soup 😋 I would buy it for £2.50

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 02/05/2023 15:41

£2. Because of the shape a good % of it would be going to the birds.

QuintanaRoo · 02/05/2023 15:41

And you’d have to label the gf loaf as “may contain gluten” if made in the same kitchen where gluten bread is made.

IchVersteheNicht · 02/05/2023 15:42

Thank you all! I think I'll start with £2.50.

Just to clear things up I have the relevant certificates needed. I need them for my cakes business anyway. For my cake business GF cakes are made in a separate kitchen.

I've been doing cakes for years, I've always made my own bread and have had a few enquire which is why I thought I'd ask for price point. I'm not expecting to make much profit with the breads. I've always got loaves around so just thought I'd sell them to the (few) people who want them.
