How much would you by my bread for? (Pic attached)

Just a quick one! Trying to gauge how much I should sell for.
I have a small cake making business and I've always got bread on the go so to add it at a small cost isn't going to be any trouble. A few people have asked for loaves, and im unsure on how much I should charge for them.

How much would you pay for this?
(The gluten free option I do will have to be more expensive as it costs more)

Thank you!

How much does it cost you to make? Including ingredients, oven use and time?

mondaytosunday · 02/05/2023 16:01

I'd pay £4 if it was an interesting flavour and studded with garlic, for example. For a plain white £2.50.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 02/05/2023 16:03

£10 but only because I haven't eaten anything today and am very hungry

Same!

charge as much as you need based on material, time, profit etc. and see whether people buy them?

I would not start out too low/with a price that you will need to increase after a short amount of time.

BeanyBops · 02/05/2023 16:22

I'd pay 2 or 2.50 but where I live if you called it organic, small batch, locally sourced, and especially if you did some fancy flavours it would be 4.50-5.50.

TaLooLaBell · 02/05/2023 16:22

£3 and it looks delicious

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 02/05/2023 16:25

No more than £2

dudsville · 02/05/2023 16:30

That looks like a nice loaf. We buy all sorts of shapes, didn't realise there was a standard. Round or square they taste the same. I think the ones we buy are similar to what others have quoted, between £2.50 and £4.

ActDottie · 02/05/2023 16:34

I think it just looks like homemade bread I can make at home… so nothing sorry

But most of us don't make homemade bread at home

It's a 500g white loaf for reference.

Im going to do sourdough too, I've just started feeding my starter.

I was thinking £2.50.
Re awkward shape, I can put it in a normal loaf tin, I just like the rounded shape (personal preference) but for the ones to sell will be the normal loaf shape.

I'd rather have a regular loaf tin shape or a hand shaped one with no tin (like a cob). The one you have made just looks weird.

pfftt · 02/05/2023 16:42

Gail's bakery sells scones at £2.90 each and round sourdough loaves for 4.50 so I think for a regular loaf no less than £3. Wouldn't be worth the effort and energy

IchVersteheNicht · 02/05/2023 16:54

@starfishmummy I mentioned below, the ones I would be selling would be standard shape. I just like the round ones myself.

I've had a few comments re gluten free, I just wanted to reiterate the GF cakes I make are made in a separate kitchen. (Separate location entirely)

£3 I'd feel good about. I don't really buy bread though, it's too delicious.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 02/05/2023 17:11

Depends where you are selling it. I live in London and people have been known to pay a fortune for such things! Personally, I would pay £2.50 but I have seen loaves go in London for over 4 quid.

I'd pay more for seeded etc.

momonpurpose · 02/05/2023 17:12

Personally I love the round loaf. And would be happy to pay for fresh homemade bread

Missingmyusername · 02/05/2023 17:13

£2.50 I’d buy it all the time, £4 little less. £3 seems fair if it’s a small business.

I am obsessed with fresh bread though!

Laiste · 02/05/2023 17:20

Would it be made in a bread maker?

CurlewKate · 02/05/2023 17:22

3 quid I think if it's hand made. I wouldn't buy bread made in a breadmaker- I'm fussy about bread and I don't think breadmaker bread has a good texture. I can always tell (people have tried to trick me!)

Icepinkeskimo · 02/05/2023 17:29

I think it looks lovely, and I love the shape, I have some president butter here (yes I splashed out). Good bread and butter is beautiful so yes I willingly pay 3.50-4.00. For all those saying a couple of quid, wake up and smell the bread! A sliced white mass produced crap loaf costs that in the co-op!
Can I buy a loaf of this beauty please OP?

IchVersteheNicht · 02/05/2023 17:30

Laiste · 02/05/2023 17:20

Would it be made in a bread maker?

No, I make my bread by hand / mixer.

I'm in SE if that's any relevance. 20 miles from london.

Thanks for all the advice!

Thank you all! I think I'll start with £2.50.

Just to clear things up I have the relevant certificates needed. I need them for my cakes business anyway. For my cake business GF cakes are made in a separate kitchen.

I've been doing cakes for years, I've always made my own bread and have had a few enquire which is why I thought I'd ask for price point. I'm not expecting to make much profit with the breads. I've always got loaves around so just thought I'd sell them to the (few) people who want them.

Fair enough, then in that case I’d pay a bit more than whatever the gf Warburton tiger loaf is? Is that £4:50, so I’d pay a bit more than that and keep buying it if it was as good/better than that.

Ooh there's some people trying to put the downer on this isn't there?!

I really love the shape actually but it's good that you can accommodate a more traditional loaf.

Anyway I would probably pay £3.50-£4 for it. Good luck OP.
