Living in their house and walking dogs twice a day. Must stay overnight but free to go during the day. Not London! (He's 23 with a desperate check and he's training as a physio)

Minimum wage for the hours he's working/on call.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/05/2023 14:09

How many nights is he staying there? I'd say £50 per night.

MyGirlDaisy · 01/05/2023 14:18

I am an insured and dbs checked pet sitter (please make sure he has some insurance cover and signed permission to take the dogs to the vet if necessary and act in the animals best interests as advised by a vet) . For an overnight I charge £40 this would include a 30 minute evening and morning walk. Additional hours I would charge at day rate.

NorthernSpirit · 01/05/2023 14:26

Is he a DBS checked pet sitter?

Is he insured to look after animals?

We pay our checked & insured pet sitter £35 per night.

Wonford · 01/05/2023 14:41

It's a friend. No he's not insured, whoch they know. Presumably they want to pay him less than a registered pet sitter.

Have a look at the Rover app for your area.

Is all food provided for him, does he want/need to do it? £60 a day seems the sort of fee I would suggest to my dc

caringcarer · 01/05/2023 14:52

If an insured sitter charges £35 per night then £30 per night seems fair to include walking the dogs twice a day.

No not all food. They are offering 30 a day which doesn't seem like much so I think he'll decline politely! They have three dogs.

According to the rover app 35 a night is the minimum for pet sitting but they charge 15 extra per walk! So that would be 65 a day. Some charge 100 a day for a night and two walks!

I’m in the north west and our dog sitter charges £20 a night or £15 half day.

God that's nothing. 15 for half a day is roughly 4 an hour! Is that even legal?!

£30 a day seems more than reasonable to me.

mondaytosunday · 01/05/2023 15:12

I paid £160 for four nights to a 21 year old son of a friend. Two dogs two cats. He misread my instructions and fed the dogs double their usual amount ! Other than that he didn't exactly tidy up after himself but he didn't the leave a big mess either. I was looking at £80/night for a professional so was fine with it.

It's not reasonable. It's an absolute rip off. £30 a DAY? To house sit from 5pm to 10am and walk three dogs twice a day? 30 is fuck all.

£30 per day seems reasonable to do a favour for a mate , if they are going to pay the going rate they may as well employ a bone fide pet sitter .

Do you mean doggy daycare rather than someone who comes to your house?

OP - I'd tell them to stick it. Ripping him off.

She's my mate - not his. He doesn't owe them anything! He's turned it down anyway.

DS is a bit younger and still at uni. He worked 7-12 last night in a local bar and earned £60 plus tips. Obviously minus tax.

Georgieporgie29 · 01/05/2023 15:23

But surely most of the time he is just sat there watching tv but being ‘present’ same as what he could do at home for no money. The dog walks are the only time he would actually be doing any work so it’s not £4/hour it’s more like £15 hour.

BirminghamNewStreet · 01/05/2023 15:23

NW city here too-dog sitter £30 /per day per dog , in her home; you provide the dog food. One walk per day included.
Kennels-again £30 per day per dog and, 2 walks per day. You provide dog food.
Both have all the relevant council certs and insurance.

BirminghamNewStreet · 01/05/2023 15:24

I’ve never had a dog sitter in my actual house. I personally wouldn’t like that.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2023 15:26

Well, it doesn't exactly sound like hard work. For a friend, I'd be embarrassed asking for more. My dc have done it for just some food and £50 for 4/5 days.
