What fun or nice thing have you done this weekend that hadn't cost much money?

Many of us need to find free or very cheap things to do these days so I thought we could share some here.

We have done a bike ride and a walk to see some beautiful bluebells in woods.
We had a movie night last night and might have another one tonight if the dc can decide on a film.

I waved at loads of children on the steam trains at Porthmadog yesterday ☺️

Yesterday we went for a walk in bluebell woods with my parents. Today we went to a RHS garden - we’re members and I head to our local one all the time so it’s very cost effective. They had a beautiful tulip display. Tomorrow off to the local spring fete. A very cheap weekend actually - although we did go out for dinner last night.

Went to let women speak at Hyde park then to Gail’s for a coffee, sat in another park and then watched football on my dad’s sky account.
Gail’s gave me a free cinnamon bun so even cheaper.

Lovely thread!

Church for us today. Love our church family! You get well fed at our church aswell, biscuits, crisps, homemade cakes etc and people always ask us to take things home "for the children". Load aof good toys and books on the children's area too so it's a really nice morning out for free.

Afternoon in the garden once the rain had stopped!

@honeylulu what is a messy church if you don't mind me asking? My daughter asked me to take her to one but I said that every church that I'd ever been to was tidy - I've no idea what she's talking about!

Went for a long walk with a friend, had a coffee at the midway point, walked back. Took three hours and only cost £3.50 or so.

Sat in the garden reading my book whilst the DC and cats played.

Watched Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure with the DC. They loved it. They've been repeating "69, dude!" all evening with much hilarity, despite completely missing the point.

I cycled from Lytham to Fleetwood and back. All it cost me was a bag of chips at Blackpool.

TheDogsMother · 30/04/2023 22:43

A walk from Goring to Worthing and back yesterday. It was lovely in the sunshine.

Took dc to the early morning kids club at the cinema, £2.50 a ticket. Got pick n mix for £1.25 each at the pound shop next door. Then got 2 pizzas from the Asda counter with a bottle of pop for £6. Spent time in the garden tidying it up for summer.

Sat on a bench with hubby and watched the world go by. It's been years since just the two of us went anywhere without children or dogs. Not sure I'll get used to it but it did make for a decent afternoon away from work (WFH) and stress.

Been to a evensong at an Oxford College.

A free choral concert.

Just come back from a bat watch which was part of The City Nature Challenge 2023.

Bluebell woods, wood stack climbing at a NT that doesn't charge for parking, bought snacks from Tesco on the way, and some folks over for bacon/sausage butties.

crackofdoom · 30/04/2023 23:22

livingthegoodlife that is but one of them. Haven't been to Padstow May Day for years actually. There's a new one in Redruth that we might go to tomorrow- looks like a riot (possibly literally, knowing Redruth!)

wafflyversatile · 30/04/2023 23:35

Started clearing a friend's overgrown garden.

whichwayiwonder · 30/04/2023 23:53

Made a container pond near the veg beds in my garden, hoping it'll attract some frogs or toads to eat the slugs. If not it still looks pretty. Tin bath, rocks, log all scavenged.

heidipi · 01/05/2023 00:07

Haven’t done it yet but am going to try geocaching tomorrow. Am expecting grumbling pre-teens, tech hiccups and possibly rain. It will cost me some chips but we’ll get out of the house and at least they’ll have something new to moan about 😄

BrandyandGinger · 01/05/2023 00:15

Planted some Astilbe and did some weeding, had a nice chicken burger for dinner instead of a wintery roast and then started a new series on Netflix. Not very exciting but I feel like I achieved something and then properly relaxed.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/04/2023 19:53

I've been enjoying a book. In fact, I read some of the book in a bath with a flagrant disregard for the effects of the humidity on the pages, like a goddamned rock star.

😂@FourTeaFallOut love this!

thejadefish · 01/05/2023 07:46

@Borka thank you 😊

Set up an orienteering course for the Scouts to do at Camp in 2 weeks time.
