What’s the age gap between you & your siblings?

Just idly wondering.
There’s 7 years between my sister and I, and a whopping 15 years between my brother and I.
Can anyone beat that?

Not my family of course but Bernie Ecclestone had another baby when his eldest daughter was 67! I think anyone would be hard pressed to beat that age gap between siblings!

My own age gap with my sister is a much less impressive 17 months.

Grimwig · 27/04/2023 17:24

I think I win! I am 37 years older than my (half) siblings. My own children are older than them which is weird.

amusedbush · 27/04/2023 17:25

I only have one sibling, 6 years younger than me. We have the same parents but we don’t look alike at all and strangers used to ask my mum outright if we had the same dad. Staggeringly rude 😂

A friend of mine has 19 years between her oldest and youngest. She has five altogether (all with the same father). The first 3 were quite close together (she had 3 under 4 at one point) but there are big gaps between the 3rd and 4th and between the 4th and 5th.

Qilin · 27/04/2023 17:29

I'm the oldest 38 then brother 36 then sister 34 then a little brother just turned 16 so almost 22 years between me and youngest

cptartapp · 27/04/2023 18:08

18 months. Far too close. We don't get on.
I specifically avoided having two DC in consecutive school years to avoid comparisons.

TheNoodlesIncident · 27/04/2023 19:09

Four years, two years, and twenty minutes Grin Although the doctor said that one twin baby was at least two weeks' more gestation than the other...

Barrythetimesprout · 27/04/2023 19:11

5 of us 16 years between youngest and oldest.

SwanUppmanship · 27/04/2023 19:22

@TheNoodlesIncident how does that even work? One twin being of longer gestation I mean.

My friend's twins were 6lbs and 10lbs when they were born. They looked like (very cute!) russian dolls in their newborn photos Grin

tobee · 27/04/2023 21:18

My dsis is 22 months older than me. There are good and bad things about this ime

Okaygoahead · 27/04/2023 21:44

I trail my older siblings by 9, 11 and 12 years. It was a bit like being an only child (or having five parents).

@TheNoodlesIncident how does that even work? One twin being of longer gestation I mean.

Polyovulation runs in our family, down the female line (of course). My mother has done extensive research into her maternal family tree as far back as the 1600s and found seventeen pairs of twins. In each case the twins were born of a singleton, in that the twins themselves never had twins, plus it also always skipped a generation. So my mum's generation had twins (and my grandmother was a surviving twin) but none of the women in my generation have.

It's really quite weird! Identical twins can happen to anyone but fraternal twins tend to be genetic (I think). They are the result of two eggs and two sperms rather than a single egg splitting, so if you release more than one egg when you ovulate, it can happen. I'm not remotely scientific so if anyone else has a better explanation I'd be happy to hear it!

Lovegossip · 27/04/2023 21:58

My brother and nephew are only 2 years apart

Sodie · 27/04/2023 22:00

supersonicginandtonic · 27/04/2023 22:01

skylaynard · 22/11/2025 14:46

cptartapp · 22/11/2025 19:40

18 months. Too close. Too much competition growing up. Not seen him in three years.
