I've met a lot of the royal fam. But not exactly out and about.

I saw High Grant and Colin Firth lying on mattresses in a London street taking a break from filming Bridget Jones fight scene.

John Simms lived up my road - I saw him out and about a lot as well as Sophie Okenedo and Clive Owen. I got asked out by Eddie Izzard and Rob Newman.

Idris Elba. I nearly fainted.

Pete Postlethwaite in the Church Stretton Co-op.

Oof, I've passed by lots of famous people, particularly when I worked in cocktail bars in Dublin.

Bono and Bob Geldof in for lunch
Sinead O Connor and her entourage
Passed Tommy Tiernan on the streets a couple of times
Used to run into David O Doherty all the time, his walking route used to go by my old office
Met Chris O Dowd at the opening of a new bar
Met Ozzy Osbourne twice, once backstage (with Zakk Wylde) and another at a book signing
Cillian Murphy a few years back at a private function I was working
Rosanna Davidson on a number of occasions, she had dinner quite often in a restaurant I used to work in.

But the person I was most excited to meet was Mark "Rasher" Kavanagh. He was lovely, and his work is just amazing.

I met Stephen Fry at an event ten years ago. I found him to be humble, personable, and strangely slightly shy. A very nice, honest man.

I have met David Cameron several times; as you would expect, he comes over as highly charming, but the inherent, unconscious '-isms' of his background and class are evident in his every word.

George Best held a door open for me once, a long time ago

When I was about 17/18 I was in a club in Manchester which the artist formally known as Prince was visiting. His staff came over and asked me to join him. I said no!

In the BA first class lounge some years ago at Heathrow. Joan Collins on the way out and Ewan McGregor on the way back.

Dame Joan was perfectly turned out as you would imagine. Hair and make up all pristine. Wearing an immaculate navy and white ensemble of what used to be called resort wear back in the day.

Ewan looked knackered and a bit scruffy but still very handsome with the most piercing blue eyes.

Met Michael Palin twice through work, he was lovely.

Saw Jools Oliver 15 years ago with her 2 little girls in The Tate - all 3 dressed in white.

Saw Jamiroquai sitting in a super fancy sports car looking very annoyed at bring recognised by people

Alfie Allen on a skateboard, and at the gym (not a posh one)

Not counting places where you'd expect to see celebs, like theatres, airports, the BBC or the Ivy, my top real world spots were Huw Edwards at the local fish and chip restaurant (long time ago, doing excellent parenting) and Vic Reeves and family in the pub over Sunday lunch (children also v well behaved).

My stbx husband had a piss next to Brian Blessed in the Waterloo station bogs once.

I work on the Tube so the occasional B/C-list sleb might pop up. I think the most famous would be former-England-mens-team-manager Roy Hodgeson.

I bet you regret that now!

Ooh, Hugh Grant at West Ken and I saw T. Blair at a staff event at the Hyde Park Hilton (when TfL had money) after the terrorist attack in 2005.

People saying The Queen - whilst out and about? I saw her at a royal garden party but that's not accidental! Did you really pass her in the street??

I had forgotten until I saw your post but actually I once saw her being driven past, at random, in the town where I lived at the time. There was no special event on, not that the public would have been aware of anyway. She would’ve just been on her way somewhere (prob. to a royal residence that wasn’t far away).

In my memory she waved at passers-by in a general way as the car slowed for a junction, but I’m not sure if I’ve invented the waving bit. The street was bustling and it would have been clear that everyone had clocked her because it was an important-looking car. People were pausing and looking.

This was ages ago — early 2000s maybe.

booktokbear · 09/10/2023 18:18
