If someone said "I've been married a long time" how long would you think is long time?

Just out of curiosity really... how long is long to you? 2 years, 5 years? 20 years? What the minimum time that can be considered'a long time'

20 years. Definitely not less than 10.

Also over 20 years

napody · 25/04/2023 21:23

I was gonna say 20+ years, but to be honest I think it depends on age.... from a 35 year old it might be a fair comment if they'd be married 10-15 years, as in they married early 20s.... that's a big proportion of their life.

OneCup · 25/04/2023 21:23

Surely it'll depend on the age of the speaker? If they're 80, a 10 year marriage wouldn't be long. If they're 30, it would.

jsnndjdj · 25/04/2023 21:23

Interesting responses so far. I would probably say 10 but maybe that's nothing in terms of the real longer timers

10 years or more perhaps? Maybe it depends on how long into it they are as that will change your perception.

I'm married 14 years so would say 10 years+. My parents are married 45 years so would probably say 30 years+. For someone who isn't married or just married maybe 5years+ feels a long time.

Shinyandnew1 · 25/04/2023 21:24

25+ years.

My parents have been married for 60 years-I’d count that as a very long time!

Agree.

I don't know. I've been in a relationship with my DH for 22 years and it doesn't feel long to me. But people tell me it is a long time. (We've only been married 14 years).

My parents have been married almost 50 years. That to me is a long time.

HighHeelsHurt · 25/04/2023 21:24

20+ years. I’m 14 years in and wouldn’t say we’ve been married a long tie in conversation- it’s gone in a flash

AlltheFs · 25/04/2023 21:25

20+
I’ve been married 9 and that feels really new! So no way 10.

Loria · 25/04/2023 21:25

80 years

Cornishmumofone · 25/04/2023 21:26

I think it depends on both your age and generation. Other school mums seemed shocked when I said I'd been married for over 20 years as DD is in Y1. Most of them have been married for <10 years or they've never married. I think they think I got married really young (24).

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 25/04/2023 21:27

20 or more years.

shivawn · 25/04/2023 21:27

Depends how old they are of course. If a 30 something year old said it I'd be thinking around 10 years but obviously if it's an 80 year old you'll be thinking a lot longer.

JustFrustrated · 25/04/2023 21:28

It depends on age of couple and time together..

My friends, together 13 years, got together when she was 20, married 10. I'd say that's a long time.

If it was my mum at 60, no I don't think it is that long.

It's proportional to their life. So in my friends case, it's been 1\3 of their lives.

Over 20 years
