If someone said "I've been married a long time" how long would you think is long time?

Just out of curiosity really... how long is long to you? 2 years, 5 years? 20 years? What the minimum time that can be considered'a long time'

I agree it may depend on the age of the speaker but on average I'd say over 20/25 years would be long enough.

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/04/2023 21:29

30 years, I've been married 20 years and it doesn't feel like a long time.

embolass · 25/04/2023 21:30

20+

Depends on their age.

I'm early 30s and have been with DH for nearly 13 years, I think that's a long time as it's a big percentage of my life. But 13 years at 60 I probably wouldn't see as "long"

2chocolateoranges · 25/04/2023 21:32

I’d say over 20 years is a long time, doesn’t matter if you are 40 or 80 , 20 years is a long time.

Floralnomad · 25/04/2023 21:34

20+ years ,10 yrs isn’t long at all

Ovaeasy · 25/04/2023 21:36

50 years +

DH and I have been married 15 years (& married young) but it hardly feels like any time at all to me. I wouldn’t describe it as a long time.

I suppose I’m lucky to have a lot of examples of long and strong / successful (as in 50, 60 years and still happy together, looking forward to more) marriages in my family / social circle so that’s my starting point expectation wise. It would be different if all the role models I had were divorced.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 25/04/2023 21:36

I’ve been married nearly 23 years. It seems like a long time as it is over half my life.

weegiemum · 25/04/2023 21:37

I think I've been married a long time (in a good way!!) - I'm 52 and have been married 28 years. Got married at 24.
