I had a thread on here once, and the advice I received was absolutely life-saving. Financially and emotionally. A Mnetter abroad saved my bacon by giving me banking advice - I shall always be grateful to her, although to this day I have no idea who she was.

Yes, very specifically. I saw on MN that I could transfer DNA from Ancestry to other search sites which led me to finding my father and wider family after searching for over 20 years.

rubyslippers · 25/04/2023 07:52

Yes - helped me breastfeed my second for three years
now - feminism and menopause

Yes. Pregnancy thread was such a source of light and companionship and advice through COVID.

Hi @RandomCatGenerator 👋 I'm not sure I would have got through it if it wasn't for that thread.

For me (aside from that pregnancy thread) I learned a lot about recurrent miscarriage from MN, and eventually went on to have my DS after 3 losses. I never would have known about the meds I took if it wasn't for MN. I will be forever grateful to the poster who told me about her private clinic which offered video calls 💕

MrsJamin · 25/04/2023 08:00

Learned all about baby led weaning and I firmly believe it has made years of family meals a joy because my sons were so open to eating new foods.
I stayed for the feminism. After 7 years of posting on FWR, I still don't have any real life friends who are gender critical. The board keeps me from feeling like the child in the emporer's new clothes who is looking around for some reassurance that others see what he sees.

FroggoDoggos · 25/04/2023 08:01

Unfortunately it has. I haven't had MM long but I am already very cautious to even open the app these days. My posts are mainly mundane mum stuff - baking advice etc. Obviously there are the people who just want to help, but I am now constantly suspicious of trolls, ever since one gaslighted me into thinking I had somehow offended her and then, when I confronted her, called me some truly horrible names. I won't put them here but let's just say they were not kid-friendly. I reported the trolls but nothing seems to have happened. I am a young mum just looking to not feel so alone as I figure out how to be a good. I feel I don't deserve the stress or upset MN has caused me. I have learned to confront people less now as I am too tired to fight with anyone. First time on here in a while so please be nice 🙏

Melodybogwot · 25/04/2023 08:06

Yes. A lovely lady private messaged me under an old username and sent me a huge box of her children's outgrown clothes, coats and shoes, that were in perfect condition and even put in some hot chocolate and marshmallows. Still no idea of her real name, but thank you if you spot this ❤

Deathraystare · 25/04/2023 08:17

Yes. Nothing really dramatic. Did not need relationship/financial advice but (forgotten how I got on here in the first place as not a mum but intrigued. It was something about teenagers and my Godson was one at the time. I sent the link to her because the teenager pictured looked just like him. Then I found other topics such as AIBU, Chat, Style and Beauty etc.

I have learned so much about all sorts of things. I particularly like when people talk about their jobs and love the post (cannot remember the exact title) where we can ramble on about unexciting things! This is the topic to go on if you just want to chat about your day . It is lovely because there are no mean girls and boys on it! People show pics of their gardens, talk about their family, what they had for dinner, health, where they went out etc. THanks to @missconduct for thinking of that particular topic!

StopStartStop · 25/04/2023 08:19

I think I have a more robust attitude to relationships due to reading mumsnet.

But I still have a toilet brush, and I've never cooked ham in coca cola.

angiec89 · 25/04/2023 08:20

Am a relatively new used but have received lots of good advice on here. Grateful for the app definitely although it can feel like an echo chamber at times...

lubblyjubbly52 · 25/04/2023 08:29

I agree. This place is great for life advise but gets much too political at times for my liking! I can still appreciate the great mothers and others here though.

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 25/04/2023 08:37

I’ve learned that young single renters are entitled to a local housing allowance which for my son staring out in his first job is equivalent to about £60 a week.
I learned about Headstart courses. It’s changed its name now, but my niece attended one as a result of me reading about it. Her school had never even heard of it and she qualified for a bursary too. Most of the other young people on the course were from private schools.
I also learned the grey rock technique which has helped with a difficult family member and in some aspects of my work.

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 25/04/2023 08:38

Ooh and I now have a silicone toilet brush!

Malarandras · 25/04/2023 08:38

It’s highly entertaining so it’s provided a lot of distraction for me recently.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 25/04/2023 08:38

Only the style & beauty board really side-eyes alarmingly full wardrobe.

But seriously, it's amazing to see how much MN has helped people with real problems ❤

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 25/04/2023 08:39

Ohh yes the menopause stuff too!

Cocteautriplet · 25/04/2023 08:41

Yes the menopause threads helped me get the hrt I needed which in turn reduced the crippling anxiety I was experiencing.

The elderly parent threads are brimming with good advice and kindness. Currently dealing with suspected rapid onset dementia with DM and it’s been a lifesaver.

Interested in the housing allowance. How does that work?

It cemented my decision not to have kids.

Same!

Nimbostratus100 · 25/04/2023 08:57

often my only human contact for days at a time, when I am stuck in bed

KimWexlersPonyTail · 25/04/2023 09:03

Came for S and B and stayed for FWR, thank you Langclegg and Datun in particilar. Met up with posters IRL and attended various feminist meetings, great times in various pubs around the country! Thank goodness for MN our rights are under attack like never before.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 25/04/2023 09:05

It has changed my opinions on a few things but nothing that's directly impacted me.

UnibowsandRaincorns · 25/04/2023 12:36

I will be forever grateful to the poster who said put toilet paper in the toilet when you know a no. 2 is coming 😳Thats how you avoid needing to use the toilet brush! Life changing stuff!!!

CMOTDibbler · 25/04/2023 12:53

Yes, for the 10+ years I was dealing with my elderly parents, I don't think I would have managed without the women of Elderly Parents. No one in RL wants to talk or hear about your struggles to get your mother to stop spitting food or how you stop your father calling you 7+ times a day but there was always someone to talk to or laugh darkly about things. And they were there when my journey stopped so suddenly and I had to deal with two deaths in a month.

riotlady · 25/04/2023 13:10

Major- got some lovely support and advice when I was diagnosed with ME/CFS a few years ago

Minor- Bought a particular sellotape dispenser on the advice of one of the Christmas threads and it really pulls it’s weight every year when I do the wrapping! Best £7 I ever spent

Florissante · 25/04/2023 13:12

No.
