This bloody emergency alert

It's going to be like when they test the fire alarm at work, isn't it?
You get more and more tense waiting for it, then three minutes before it is due to go off you forget all about it. Then it does go off and you scream like a lunatic and jump so hard that you dislocate something in your neck.

I'd rather just get fried in a nuclear attack and avoid all the stress.

Got ours at 14:59. Total anticlimax

Fuss about nothing

maddiemookins16mum · 23/04/2023 15:21

I worked with a bloke who every Tuesday without fail would literally jump and spill something or knock something off his desk in response to our weekly (not that loud) fire alarm test. The fuss he made every week was ridiculous. Once he actually said he felt faint afterwards as it had given him such a ‘scare’ and he went outside for some fresh air (namely a smoke). It was beyond tedious.

Womencanlift · 23/04/2023 15:22

Got it now. Wasn’t loud at all. I would have missed it if I wasn’t looking out for it

Anybody crying and shaking yet?

Borntobeamum · 23/04/2023 15:24

Not had anything!

CouldBeOuting · 23/04/2023 15:37

All four of us together this weekend (DD visiting). Happily playing a board game. My phone (purposely on mute just to se…) went off at exactly the same time as everyone else’s in the house. Barely interrupted our game play TBH. Autistic DS had been prepared but was with us anyway. DS and I both on same network, DH and DD each on different networks.

None of us have felt our Covid chips activating yet but I am getting my Spring booster tomorrow so maybe that will be when it activates 😜

Titusgroan · 23/04/2023 15:37

Seems it was a bit of a failure then

All the angst over a small percentage of the population choosing to turn it off and it doesn't even work properly anyway.

I'm guessing it depends on the type phone people have

What do you mean anticlimax? What were you expecting?!

moonspiral · 23/04/2023 16:21

Three had a problem

SpringLobelia · 23/04/2023 16:22

I confess I had been expecting a much louder klaxon kind of effect. It was 'kinda lame' in the words of DS.

Still pleased they are testing it though.

toomuchlaundry · 23/04/2023 16:25

Did you cope @Random789

EsmaCannonball · 23/04/2023 16:26

I'm reading that Three and EE had issues but I'm with neither of them. It wasn't just my phone not going off, it was no-one else's phone in the vicinity either.

😂

Hawkins003 · 23/04/2023 16:39

I would presume that we would have something like that in place

tonyele · 23/04/2023 16:45

Can't see what use a nuclear attach alarm would be, what exactly would you do with that 4 minutes, all the protect and survive stuff was debunked - without a nuclear bunker (which few have) there is not much you could do, so best not to worry about it really.

Pray? Say goodbye to loved ones? Go to the bog?

Loria · 23/04/2023 16:53

Or, as the old saying went .. immediately on seeing the brilliant flash of a nuclear explosion, bend over, put your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye

halliessa · 23/04/2023 17:35

halliessa
What are you thinking of?
We don't have anything in place. It is thought that this system may be used to include nuclear.

We all have the same type of new phone here. All EE. 3 got it but I didn’t.
Airplane mode off etc

??

moonspiral · 23/04/2023 16:21

There is a shock 🙄 I am with them and that doesn’t surprise me in the least. They are awful and I am counting down until my contract finishes

memoriesofamiga · 23/04/2023 17:51

We live in a rural area that doesn't have a phone signal at all most of the time. And only 3G on the rare times it does. So we weren't expecting to get the alarm on our phones, and none of the 7 phones in the house (on Vodafone, Tesco and 02 networks) got an alarm.

If they realistically want this to work they need to sort out the shocking signal for rural areas first.
