Would love to hear how everyone does it. This would be with cow's semi skimmed milk. Willing to try coconut milk I guess. TIA

If it's oats, surely it isn't going to be low carb though?

Dyslexicwonder · 16/04/2023 17:55

I have just thrown oats, 0% Greek Yoghurt, milk and frozen berries into a tupperware.

I will add bananna and honey in the morning, but obviously that's optional. I sometimes grate an apple into and add cinnamon.

AltitudeCheck · 16/04/2023 17:57

Add Greek yogurt and some PB powder or protein powder to it

sofabedsofa · 16/04/2023 17:57

Oats are high in carbs, I’m not sure how you can make them low carb? If you want sugar-free, just don’t add any extras eg fruit/honey.

Can I ask why coconut milk over regular milk?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/04/2023 17:57

Leave out the oats?

FL0 · 16/04/2023 17:57

You can’t .

Very small amount of oats (tablespoon is 9g carbs). Chia seeds are good for protein and satiety. Plain/Greek yoghurt and milk.

I use M&S high fibre, low sugar nutty granola topped with skyr yoghurt (the sour cherry or M&S baked apple one) and then load with raspberries or blueberries.

A tiny drop of apple juice to soften the granola overnight.

It's my favourite breakfast ever and so quick to make. I bought a tub from tk maxx and just make it up when I'm doing dinner and take to work the next day.

Leave out the oats?

This is the only way!

oats are high in carbs, you can't change that! You can 'not add further carbs' by just using full fat, low carb, yogurt (like total fage). and raspberries.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/04/2023 18:01

You can make them high protein by adding whole milk, protein powder, peanut butter and so on.

You can reduce the carbs by cutting the oats and replacing with seeds like hemp heart, flaxseed and chia seeds.

The only way to make them actually low carb though is to do a 100% seed replacement and ditch the oats altogether.

TwilightSkies · 16/04/2023 18:03

You don’t have to be scared of carbs. Oats release energy slowly. I find oats, full fat milk and cherries or bananas is lovely and keeps me full until lunchtime.

bellac11 · 16/04/2023 18:09

Yes the oats are carbs, but within the daily intake, it might only be a small part of the rest of the diet

So I would allocate 25g of raw oats and I use 3x milk to oats, so that would be 75ml of milk. I batch cook them up, so if I was using that ratio I would make 5 days worth, 125g oats with 375ml of milk. Just let them sit there overnight and then portion them out into 5 small pots and thats breakfast done.

I add protein powder to mine and also a teaspoon of peanut butter to each pot.

I heat each pot each day as I dont like them cold

KirstenBlest · 16/04/2023 18:11

Make it with cooked quinoa instead of oats

TomatoSandwiches · 16/04/2023 18:12

I would use a mix of nuts, seeds and a very sparse amount of oats with real Greek yogurt, some berries and inulin syrup.
The nuts will take on a softer texture overnight in yogurt a bit like oats.

viques · 16/04/2023 18:13

I used to make them with un sweetened apple juice, though obviously there is a fair amount of sugar in the apple juice already. Then add whatever you want the next morning.

bookish83 · 16/04/2023 18:13

Nuts and seeds or low carb granola instead of porridge oats. I would make with yoghurt instead of milk though

PinotPony · 16/04/2023 18:14

Oats are carbs but they're slow release so a great way to start the day.

I have 40g porridge oats, a cup of almond milk (is lower fat than cows milk) and then add frozen berries. If I'm training, I'll add a scoop of protein powder or peanut butter. By the morning it has all defrosted and soaked and is delicious.

Also easy to put in a Tupperware to take to work.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 16/04/2023 18:16

You can’t

Try Greek yoghurt with protein powder - high protein, low carb and way more filling than it sounds.

PinotPony · 16/04/2023 18:16

A word of caution about nuts.. they're high in fat. Good fat but still fat. Should aim for no more than a shot glass full.

Hubblebubble · 16/04/2023 18:18

I do oats, a scoop of vanilla protein powder, coconut milk, chopped banana and blended dates.

JuneShitfield · 16/04/2023 18:18

Can’t help with the oats/noats beefs but I can vouch for coconut yoghurt in overnight oats. Bloody lovely.

Hubblebubble · 16/04/2023 18:18

I sometimes also do baked oats. Egg, cinnamon, pecan nuts crumbled, coconut milk, oats and maple syrup.

InspiredToBoot · 16/04/2023 18:21

Yes, definitely no oats! I've heard of using chia seeds. Would prefer no Greek yogurt, or any yogurt really.

You can do a really nice low carb overnight oats by replacing the oats with scrambled eggs then, instead of yoghurt, two rashers of bacon.
