Realities that don't exist in TV land

Inspired by the ongoing curtains thread, what realities of the world do you consistently see ignored in TV and Film?

I'll start; Car Insurance. We've been watching a show recently where the characters are forever borrowing or swapping cars with family and friends. Vanishingly unlikely that everyone has open all-driver insurance (unless that's a more common thing in America maybe?).

Characters (usually from soaps).....

  1. Going to the cafe multiple times a day (when your home/kitchen is on the same street).
  2. Only ever shopping in the corner shop, never at the supermarket or home delivery.
  3. Never seen at work / having a known job but always in designer clothing
  4. Never going to the cinema/bank/zoo/theme park...
  5. Never buying white goods or disposing of them
  6. Using a laundrette (I haven't seen a local one for years - dry cleaners yes)
  7. Playing instruments (for leisure)
  8. Neighbours with filthy rat infested houses (who spread the infestation...)
  9. Mobile phone / printer / IT shops
  10. Long lost family/friend/enemy never seen or heard of before.

People disappear for a while and then come back as a whole new person. I would like this to happen at my work - it is like a soap opera there, but I am tired of the characters now and would like to swap in some new actors to freshen things up.

You forgot that they manage to redecorate the entire house without any kind of effort.

Everybody knows their neighbours, pop in and out of each others houses.. I know my nearest neighbours' names to say good morning but have never been inside their homes, had parties, bbqs etc.

Yes @PriamFarrl and moving home on a whim and having six months deposit to pay the landlord (just like that!)

Soap opera land again

  1. no back garden
  2. no washing on the line
  3. no wiping windows
  4. no driveways
  5. never having an expired passport
  6. always having money for a Hackney carriage
  7. never buying school uniform/shoes
  8. pets apart from dogs

Replying to someone.

All too often in a drama or soap a character will say something damning or requiring an explanation to another character. Instead of that character replying, the scene just ends. Once you’re looking out for it, it happens all the time. It’s infuriating!!
