Damaged car in car park

A few weeks ago, I accidentally damaged another car in a car park (wind caught my door as I opened it and it hit the car next to me). I immediately left my details and have been corresponding with the other owner about paying for the repair. I now have the final quote which I’m going to pay, but am wondering how much extra I should send as compensation for their trouble and time? They obviously have suffered from my utter stupidity so how much extra is fair?

You are a lovely honest person with a big heart but don't go over the top.

Best to get a receipt from them marked 'full settlement of damage for reg no xxxxxx, date: xx xx xx'

Thanks for all your opinions, I don't have their address so unfortunately I can't send wine/chocs. I just feel really guilty, it may have been an accident, but it wasn't their fault yet they've been left with all the hassle. A nice person would have been more careful in the first place and not caused the damage. Lesson learnt, not to park next to other people in future.

You're making this way bigger than it is. It's hardly that much hassle to get a small dent fixed. They've not been left with an undriveable car.

Send them the cost of the repair, or even better pay the garage directly and forget about it. It's a really minor incident.

Not worth the paper it's written on.

Pay the bill directly.

I think you are being overly hard on yourself. You behaved with decency and kindness. Chocs/flowers/wine if you must do extra. No money.

I'd say maybe flowers/ wine from M&S or somewhere they do lovely ones - you sound very kind and considerate.
