Putting this here rather than Gardening as it's for non gardeners too.

I'm loving the blossom just coming out on the flowering cherry I planted in the autumn. And watching the blackbirds try to catch worms in the too long grass.

Just love my hellebores. Won't last much longer but every year l get a surprise after the winter at how nice they are.

SparkleHard · 13/04/2023 18:34

My pear tree and the many siskins that gather on it, as long as I’m not standing right next to it.

Our cherry tree is just starting to have some blossom buds (we're in central Scotland so a good bit behind a lot of you). We moved into this house on Star Wars Day (May the Fourth ....) 11 years ago and the tree was in full bloom, might be a bit earlier this year.

This weekend I'm hoping to get to the garden centre for herbs but I'm not planting much else apart from hanging baskets this year (herbs are on a high table) as we have a garden killing free range rabbit who killed a willow tree and acer last summer. Might put some geraniums in with the herbs!

This is our first spring in this house so it's exciting seeing what it's going to look like. At the moment we have bluebells and plum tree blossom

The cloud of lacy white blossom on the flowering cherry we planted three years ago. It is still not very big but the blossom is spectacular this year and seemingly impervious to high wind, heavy rain and hail.

The drifts of glorious yellow blossom smothering the acacia trees. We planted one as large as we could get for a fairly hefty price to replace a much-loved one that was toppled by a gale, and then found several had self-seeded and were busy romping away! The joke was on us but we were delighted to have more of them.

The riot of brilliant orange blossom on the berberis is more than adequate recompense for its vicious spikes.

The mass of white blossom weeping from exochorda - the bride (we used to call it the wedding day bush before discovering its proper name). It really does look like a bridal bouquet all by itself.

The palest yellow primroses which have self-seeded in the lawn and beds. The lilac violas that have self-seeded in cracks and gaps.

The robin, sparrows and blue tits busy bustling round the bird feeder.

The apricot-coloured cat glowing in the spring sunshine and contrasting beautifully with the fresh green grass as he potters about peaceably.

I could spend all day in the garden.

I love this 🥰

The wren who has built a nest in my woodshed.

CatChant · 13/04/2023 21:59

@TheDuchessOfMN Thank you!

FangsForTheMemory · 13/04/2023 22:02

Hydrangea, planted a couple of months ago. It’s very pale pink and has a wonderful scent.

BrandyandGinger · 13/04/2023 22:11

My lupins and aquilegia haven't flowered yet but you can see that they're getting ready to put on a show. The hydrangeas I planted two years ago are plumping up nicely too.
But the thing I like best is the bed I have perfectly ready to plant my onions sets in on Sunday. I'd usually have them done by mid April but the weather here has been shocking. I was starting to worry I'd never get them in the ground.

BarrelOfOtters · 14/04/2023 09:43

Popped out this morning in my dressing gown and baffies, acer leaves really starting to unfurl, buds on the newly planted laburnum. I planted tasteful white daffodils in the front garden, and am craving a bit of colour now rather than tasteful = so will plant more yellow ones for next year.

Forget me nots, they are like a blue froth going down the garden in the borders and edge of path. Also my beautiful tulips, they are gorgeous. Unfortunately, the bloody gale force winds we've had have knocked some of the petals on a few of them. Grrrr!!

Also my daphne, the most beautiful perfume every time I go by.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/04/2023 10:37

I love my white daffodils - Thalia, which are graceful and pure white. I've got some by the front door in blue pots in lasagnes which I made autumn 21 so this is their second year and they're doing well (I did feed them last spring). They've got blue muscari and some tulips in with them. I've got clumps of Thalia in various parts of the back garden, from previous years plots as well as yellow ones.

BarrelOfOtters · 14/04/2023 14:06

@ErrolTheDragon do you feed the ones in the ground too?

We bought ourselves and both sets of parents a magnolia tree as a thank you for our wedding 7 years ago. It flowers on our anniversary every year.
This year it is particularly beautiful.

AndrexPuppy · 14/04/2023 14:26

I need to put some berberis in on my triangular walled beds that fill the corners of the visibility splay at the bottom of my drive (low enough to allow visibility). Passers by have a tendency to sit on the low wall. We are opposite a scenic view, so it gets used as an unofficial bench and they cause loose bricks. I need something low growing, attractive and defensive to keep them moving... Or swap the top couple of brick courses for one of large irregular pointy rocks (common locally) Hmm.

Yes, I try to remember to chuck some on when they're in leaf.

Reugny · 14/04/2023 14:34

My lawn is actually green.

From June to September for the last few years it has been brown. (Advantage is that I don't have to mow it.)

DeadBod · 14/04/2023 14:44

Lovely thread.
I love this time of year when everything starts to wake up and pops of colour come through. We had new fencing and a patio installed last year and unfortunately we sacrificed a lot of bushes/plants in the process. DH is redesigning the full garden in the next month or so. Our garden usually looks so green and full so I can't wait to see the finished product.

TableFor5 · 14/04/2023 15:00

A glass of red wine in the early evening with a thick blanket around me!!

I'm rubbish with gardening but very much appreciate sitting there and taking it all in

italldependsreally · 14/04/2023 15:07

I don't know what they are, but the small yellow flowers in our pond. Always amazes me as they spend the other 11.5 months of the year being wet brown stumps.

Are they marsh marigolds of some type, mine are out at the moment. They can vary in size - the ones in my barrel pond are only about the size of buttercups.

TableFor5 · 14/04/2023 17:58

Oh, and also - our pear tree has just started to flower and it looks so pretty!

BorgQueen · 14/04/2023 18:02

We got back from a holiday a week ago and the front garden looked amazing, an absolute riot of colours from tulips, hyacinths, daffs and my blossom tree. FF to today and after a week of rain and galeforce winds, it looks less amazing - it happens every single fucking year.
No doubt it will happen again at the end of May, my tubs will come up and be ruined by the weather.
