Putting this here rather than Gardening as it's for non gardeners too.

I'm loving the blossom just coming out on the flowering cherry I planted in the autumn. And watching the blackbirds try to catch worms in the too long grass.

Watching the new leaves unfold on my hosta.
Lily of the Valley coming up.
Trees in blossom.
Roses sprouting new growth.

AndrexPuppy · 13/04/2023 15:44

yes, I agree @ErrolTheDragon and @addictedtotheflats . I've got a couple of big ones in huge pots and they always do well and give a good, long show with flowers and beautiful foliage interest.

Bananaramdam · 13/04/2023 15:59

My 2 gardeners. They came for 2 hours and did more than me on my own in two weeks, weeded 2 huge borders, planted 12 roses, moved a huge pot, tidied up 50 feet of overgrown lavender and 2 big jasmines and moved my sorrel to a better spot. I didn't know gardening could be so easy, no backache, I'm getting good at this! Halo

But seriously, primroses. This tender yellow is so pretty.

PinkFluffyUnicornsDancingOnRainbows · 13/04/2023 16:05

My elderly cat, who has spent the winter indoors, finally venturing out for some sun.

The bleeding heart and forget me nots are blooming, plus some hellebores are still going strong. My acer are getting bright new leaves.

I don't have one as my garden is small but I am loving the magnolia in other people's gardens.

I am not loving the start of the hayfever season.

MyMachineAndMe · 13/04/2023 16:30

I saw some forget-me-nots in my dad's garden today, amongst the weeds and the nettles. They looked lovely.

A few weeks ago, I bought two different boxes of wildflower seeds from Tesco and just scattered them in two big tubs in the back garden underneath the dining room windowsill. They're now beginning to grow and I'm looking forward to all the colour they'll hopefully bring in a couple of months. Some from last year, I think they're marigolds?, are now beginning to flower and they look nice.

We have loads of dandelions in the grass that we haven't mowed yet. I love dandelions and their bright yellow flowers and I saw a bun l bumble bee flying around them earlier today.

DiscoBeat · 13/04/2023 16:47

Spring bulbs of all kinds, especially snakes head fritillaries
We planted loads of these and every year there were less until the last few - none! I'm wondering if squirrels eat them.

Pashy · 13/04/2023 16:51

Ooh, I bought a Forest Flame at the weekend. Was in two minds about whether to put into a large pot or into the ground.

Does anyone care to advise?

Mine is in a large pot. It needs acid soil, mine isn't (though rhododendrons do ok) so thought it would be better in a pot of ericaceous compost than the ground. Also this means it's on the patio rather than at the bottom of the garden.

Thunderpunt · 13/04/2023 17:00

Tadpoles ! We have a defunct pond with a couple of inches of water in it (being repaired this spring) and one day I noticed tons of big balls of frogspawn. Now watching closely for the little tadpoles to grow legs and hop off. (And hopefully avoid the heron that i caught with one of the parents 🐸 in its beak the other morning)

Houseplantmad · 13/04/2023 17:02

My beautiful little Frittilaries (sp?). So delicate and pretty.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 13/04/2023 17:23

The deutzia, with its big pompoms
of pink and white blossom.

The clumps of primroses - more
abundant than usual.

My little wild garlic patch.

Looking forward to the tulips opening, and wishing, as I do every year, that I’d planted some fritillaries.

Natsku · 13/04/2023 17:39

Not a lot right now as its still covered in snow but I'm hoping the first flowers of the year will pop up soon under the swing bench as they always do. In fact I think I'll go check now (the snow has gone from under there at least)

I do love the red squirrels that frequently visit though, I must remember to put some hazelnuts out for them.

buckeejit · 13/04/2023 17:42

The greenhouse!

New fronds coming up on the tree ferns & the leaves coming out on the weeping birch with the sun hitting that spring green, it makes me so happy!

Loving the tulips & seeing all the buxus sprout fresh green. Such a lovely time of year

Love this thread-so cheering!

This is my favourite thing at the moment- I’m obsessed!

What do you love in your garden at the moment?
Hibernatalie · 13/04/2023 17:55

My sage when it is in full flower. Always covered in bees and butterflies. Also my lilac tree which is just starting to flower.

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 13/04/2023 17:56

My two magnolia trees - they’re starting to bloom and every year I’m enraptured by them, I think they’re stunning.

Im so lucky that we inherited a beautiful mature garden with our house that someone who knew what they were doing put a lot of thought into. We have gardeners maintaining it as dh and I are clueless but I’d love to get more into gardening.

catinboooots · 13/04/2023 17:57

My beautiful massive magnolia. It just makes me so sad she's only in bloom for such a short while.

SirChenjins · 13/04/2023 17:59

My plum tree has survived its first winter. I feel like a very proud parent!

TheDuchessOfMN · 13/04/2023 18:01

Watching the blackbirds, my white cherry in full bloom. I noticed the very first blossom on the pink today, tulips, camellias…

Nellieinthebarn · 13/04/2023 18:02

My bulb lasange actually worked this year with the bulbs coming up in the right order! I've tried this before and the bulbs did not play the game. Also next doors cherry is in bloom, I can see more of it than they can, and the king cups are coming out round the pond. Its all looking lovely.

Floribundaflummery · 13/04/2023 18:07

Catkins, primroses, cowslips and the dawn chorus😄

Hedgesgalore · 13/04/2023 18:09

My pots of tulips, went overboard planting up, have far too many but they are different varieties so when one pot goes over I can swap them out. I put them by the front door, on my third so far.

Pashy · 13/04/2023 18:09

Thanks @ErrolTheDragon Pot on the patio it is, so.

CatChant · 13/04/2023 18:12

The cloud of lacy white blossom on the flowering cherry we planted three years ago. It is still not very big but the blossom is spectacular this year and seemingly impervious to high wind, heavy rain and hail.

The drifts of glorious yellow blossom smothering the acacia trees. We planted one as large as we could get for a fairly hefty price to replace a much-loved one that was toppled by a gale, and then found several had self-seeded and were busy romping away! The joke was on us but we were delighted to have more of them.

The riot of brilliant orange blossom on the berberis is more than adequate recompense for its vicious spikes.

The mass of white blossom weeping from exochorda - the bride (we used to call it the wedding day bush before discovering its proper name). It really does look like a bridal bouquet all by itself.

The palest yellow primroses which have self-seeded in the lawn and beds. The lilac violas that have self-seeded in cracks and gaps.

The robin, sparrows and blue tits busy bustling round the bird feeder.

The apricot-coloured cat glowing in the spring sunshine and contrasting beautifully with the fresh green grass as he potters about peaceably.

I could spend all day in the garden.
