Using mass produced things is what most people have to do to create a vibe they like/show their personality.
By definition bespoke, unique or antique items are for the minority, that doesn't mean they have personality and the others don't. .

tailinthejam · 12/04/2023 14:13

I love the kitchen but the rest of it is not my thing at all. Still, it is only a small place, so you wouldn't need that much paint...

Sourfairy · 12/04/2023 14:14

LaLaLouella · 12/04/2023 14:09

@Sourfairy well I guess we'll have to disagree then!

How is putting together things you like not showing your personality?

Well if their personality is paint by numbers instagram inspired mass produced maximalism, they've shown that very well.

Catwithbigfeet · 12/04/2023 14:15

@Sourfairy
“It's utterly devoid of personality. Why can't anybody else see it 😂 It's all mass produced tin signs, wayfair furniture and fake plants. All bought and thrown together very recently to try and create a particular look”

If this is devoid of personality then what of the majority of boring and dull grey homes that seem to ( sadly) be the fashion these days?

At least this shows some imagination in the way it’s put together!
Grey shows no imagination at all but a desire to conform so as to please others… follow the flock, sheep mentality.

PriamFarrl · 12/04/2023 14:18

I like the kitchen, and my hallway is the same colour. The living room is a bit too much for me, but it’s so much better that bland grey.

Catwithbigfeet · 12/04/2023 14:23

It’s getting some good advertising on here too. Maybe the way to go for a quick sale in future!

Gatekeeper · 12/04/2023 14:29

Looks like they are a member of DiY on a budget Facebook forum. Plasticy stuff all put together in an instant rather than a real, quirky style that evolves and developes over time

I love maximalism and look at it a lot on Instagram and Pinterest, and the same stuff comes up again and again - like their pink neon sign, the typography prints etc etc. This is why I know 100% that they have based their decor on Instagram and bought recently, it's not reflective of their personality.

I'm not saying things have to be bespoke or antique - but there would be a lot more personality in a maximalist home where you can see that it's evolved, things amassed over time, variation in the art prints, trinkets from holidays, charity shop finds...doesn't have to cost much at all but this house really isn't that.

It's not my tastes at all but I absolutely fucking love it and I think id get on with the owner like a house on fire!
I am a pastels/floral/hippy type home but I fucking adore people who make their homes sing with personality.
Good for them, they've done it beautifully and clearly are skilled in design.

I agree!! I love it.

RicciardoPerez · 12/04/2023 14:50

I showed DH. He said I bet it's an ex air BnB

UnderPressureLikeACustomerInALushStore · 12/04/2023 15:19

They've based this off of the crazy bear hotel.

@Sourfairy just quoting this post again to bring it to your attention. You do sound very sour about this house for some weird reason.

Why are you quoting it again - I've already answered it

Yes, I can see what you're saying there.

stbrandonsboat · 12/04/2023 16:08

I think it looks vulgar and tacky and it could do with toning down a bit in order to sell it. I suppose some people might like it.

JaneJeffer · 12/04/2023 16:15

That horrible pastel London house is worse!

SadCelticBunny · 12/04/2023 16:20

That house is fabulous though not my style.
I love to see some colour and individual choices.

While waiting in A&E yesterday I saw an episode of Virtual Home, in which a designer advised a couple wanting to redesign their bedroom. They get to stand in a virtual room and see how different layouts and colours look.

It was all so bland, there were few personal touches to create a feeling of who the people were. I suppose that's what the couple wanted.

Mind you, my house is far from minimalist. ☺️
I would much rather the house OP has shared, it makes me smile.

@Gatekeeper It's nuts. I just went and had a look at the DIY on a budget FB page (I joined that one ages ago but had unfollowed due to getting fed up with faux panelling) literally the most recent post was a fake grass tile feature wall with a neon word sign 🤣 but the house in the OP is SO individual 🤣

LadyVictoriaSponge · 12/04/2023 17:19

To drive the point home.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 12/04/2023 17:20

Gosh this house has you really riled @Sourfairy

LibertyLily · 12/04/2023 17:25

Sourfairy · 12/04/2023 10:19

I like eclectic, maximalist decor when it's genuine, but you can absolutely tell that this hasn't evolved organically. The giveaways are the ubiquitous pink neon sign and the typography prints. This is somebody who has copied what they've seen on Instagram, and not particularly well.

I bet that 5 years ago their house was completely grey, and that their new home will have a totally different aesthetic.

I couldn't have put it better myself!

I'm an eccentric with eclectic verging on maximalist tastes, but I like my interiors to evolve as opposed to this which appears to have been put together 'a la colour by numbers'.

But....good luck to them for daring to be a bit different.

Elphame · 12/04/2023 17:25

Oh it's fabulous - not my taste but so nice to see something different rather than the ubiquitous dreary grey.
