I’m so gutted, booked to take the kids on train to London on wed and stay overnight, never been to London (and have asked on here about tubes, places to go etc) so has to put together a loose plan and now it’s forecast torrential winds (47mph gusts) I am absolutely gutted, this isn’t going to happen is it?

Thousands of things to do indoors in London! I wouldn’t let the weather put me off 😍

Lcb123 · 10/04/2023 16:18

Why wouldn’t it happen? You know a lot of people live / work in London and will be getting on as normal. Might just have to do indoor things

TheOrigRights · 10/04/2023 16:18

I don't think 47mph winds causes the nation to grind to a halt, does it?

StreamingCervix · 10/04/2023 16:19

Where are you travelling from? Are you concerned that you won’t be travel via rail/air from your departing destination to arrive at London?

NerrSnerr · 10/04/2023 16:19

You'll be fine in London in the wind. If there's problems on the train lines it might be a pain in the arse but you'll get there (even on a rail replacement). Chances are you'll be fine though and have a great time.

photoshop · 10/04/2023 16:20

Sunshine and showers on my weather forecast app. Why would some wind stop your trip? It's not a tornado...

Roselilly36 · 10/04/2023 16:20

You can’t live by the coast OP 😂 I think you will be fine in London tbf.

Georgiepud · 10/04/2023 16:20

The infrastructure is all there to survive a day of winds.

Iwasjustasking · 10/04/2023 16:20

I am more worried about the trains tbh, not when we actually get to London, travelling from the midlands.

OP posts:
TheKobayashiMaru · 10/04/2023 16:21

I don't understand the issue? OK travel might be disrupted but then again may not.

BabychamGlass · 10/04/2023 16:21

Tbf, OP and the kids might be arriving by hot air balloon

Shopper727 · 10/04/2023 16:21

It’s only windy? I’d still go tbh I mean this is the uk we have weather I live in north of Scotland though so plenty weather here and kids still go out etc walks on beach we just wrap up well and choose indoor stuff if it’s particularly bad. It’d be an adventure to go to London just need to be creative with where you go etc

Iwasjustasking · 10/04/2023 16:22

Please don’t take the piss out of something I am worrying about, really no need is there? I was worrying about the trains that’s all, no need to be so nasty is there???

OP posts:
whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 16:22

trains can handle a bit of wind. people here have to work 365 days a year it'd be a bit useless if every time we had a bit of a breeze trains all stopped.
its not like you're in a desert with sand flying about you'll be fine

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 10/04/2023 16:23

We really need to know where you are travelling from, OP.

Don’t worry about something that hasn’t happened yet, I mean that kindly.

it’s easy to get into a catastrophising mindset, but what benefit is there in stressing unduly now?

Iwasjustasking · 10/04/2023 16:23

Travelling from birmingham

Skybluepinky · 10/04/2023 16:23

Sounds like u r overthinking, there will b plenty to do in london even if it’s windy.

Babyenroute · 10/04/2023 16:24

Is it meant to be terrible weather? I'm flying out of London on Wednesday 😬

Iwasjustasking · 10/04/2023 16:26

i know it will be fine once in London, was worrying about the journey down on the train

OP posts:
dizzygirl1 · 10/04/2023 16:26

It's only in really bad weather that trains stop.... ie red weather warnings. There may be delays due to linewidth down, I'd suggest taking extra snacks and activities to keep DC Bust and occupied.
I travelled on a red warning, got stuck in a station miles away from where I wanted/needed to be. Everyone was really lovely and we all bunched together to make ourselves feel better.

rubyslippers · 10/04/2023 16:27

The weather warnings look like they extend to the southwest and not london

whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 16:29

worst comes to worst if train is cancelled just hitch hike down the m1

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/04/2023 16:30

You're catastrophising, gently 47mph gusts aren't going to stop the trains, there might be a delay if a tree comes down. Birmingham isn't in the yellow warning area.
