Anyone planning things for The Coronation weekend?

Typically I’m working on the day of The Coronation - sure we will be dead so might try to swap my shift to the Friday then I wouldn’t be back in work until the Tuesday. We don’t get on with our neighbours sadly so there won’t be a street party but I definitely want to mark the occasion somehow. May do a cream tea at DM & DF’s.

Toying with the idea of heading to London but am worried about protesters. They seem to follow Charles.

Bluebells1970 · 09/04/2023 19:18

Our village is going all out, and there's an activity on the Saturday, Sunday and B H Monday. However, we aren't "joiners in". We were planning a posh afternoon tea with the family round for when the Coronation is on but that's probably the only thing we'll sit in front of the TV for. The rest of the time will be gardening and housework as usual.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/04/2023 19:18

Happily choosing working to avoid it. Will take the day off in summer instead.

BurscoughBooths · 09/04/2023 19:20

Going to Italy to avoid it. In particular, I want to miss hours of Nicholas Witchell waffling shite plus endless commentary on Harry & Meghan, whether they attend or not

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/04/2023 19:20

No idea when it is ?

MrsBunnyEars · 09/04/2023 19:23

I have my c-section scheduled on the Friday. Doubt I’ll be street-partying after that!

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 09/04/2023 19:26

Long walk on the Saturday, 15 miles or so. Seeing friends who have zero interest on the Sunday and avoiding the events happening in our town. Working on the Monday, by choice as I own my own business.

I'm sure Charles Windsor can crack on with his day without any input from me.

BurscoughBooths I entirely agree about NW.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 09/04/2023 19:27

Going to Spain on holiday

bizzywiththefizzy · 09/04/2023 19:27

I don't live in an area that does things like street parties for royal things , My wedding anniversary is in May so we'll celebrate that .

God no

Cosycover · 09/04/2023 19:29

Nope

God no

🤣 said so simply and so accurately.

The less I have to see/hear about it on the weekend, the better.

Strictly1 · 09/04/2023 19:31

I’ve no interest at all and think too much money is being spent on it. So no, I have nothing planned.

ItsBeenOneWeek · 09/04/2023 19:32

Spending the time walking with friends with similar anti-royalist sentiments.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 09/04/2023 19:34

Nicholas Witchell has got worse with age! I wonder if he has any sense of humour at all!

Yep. Booked a Premier Inn in central London for me and dd on the day the date was announced. We also went just for the day of the Queen's funeral. We just love the atmosphere of the occasions.

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/04/2023 19:39

We’ll just googled it . I am at work

So have we! Arrive on the 4th and leave on the 7th, so lots of time to soak up the atmosphere. By chance, DS has booked his flight home from Sydney to arrive on the 5th, so he'll join us in London before we all home on the 7th.

DH went to the Lying in State and found it very moving. I just feel that this will be my last chance to be in London for a major Royal event, and I want to make the most of the opportunity.

NotThisWeekSatan · 09/04/2023 19:51

Going to London on the Saturday hopefully, if I can persuade DH and the teens. Relaxing the rest of the weekend, no plans.

Like PP, we went to the funeral and I think it would be nice to follow that - impressive but ultimately sad - occasion with a cheerier one.

It reminded me of how well we do all this stuff - I was inspired to apply for Trooping the Colour tickets but then realised we could just do the coronation instead.

anerki10 · 09/04/2023 19:52

Yep, I'm planning to ignore it. I liked the Queen. But now she's gone, I'd be quite happy if the monarchy were abolished. The only one I like is Anne!

PacificallyRequested · 09/04/2023 19:56

Taking advantage of the bank holidays to leave the country to get away from it. I think it's all a bit ridiculous in this day and age.

Notjustabrunette · 09/04/2023 19:56

I live near London but I can’t be bothered with all the standing about. A friend is having a get together at her house, so we’ll bring going to that and probably watch the main bit on the telly.

sodabreadjam · 09/04/2023 19:58

Booked a holiday abroad and didn't realise it was around the coronation. I have no interest in celebrating but no doubt would have watched bits and pieces out of nosiness. Will probably see highlights on the hotel TV - that's enough for me.

Unless you're very old yourself, this will not be your last chance, Charles is no spring chicken!

DeadbeatYoda · 09/04/2023 19:59

Don't even know when it is.
