Have you ever been pleased/relieved to be told a dog “is friendly”?

Or to hear more about the dog’s age, training, “people who don’t like dogs” or that said dog is “just having fun”

I personally haven’t - it’s very annoying because I’m often thinking about work/solving a work problem, or getting away from the stresses/conflicts of everyday life when on a walk and if a dog needs to be called away I prefer the owner to just say “sorry” so I can say “no problem” and then we can each get on with our day.

of course the dog owner can curse my failure to embrace the chance to praise their dog/ask what breed it is afterwards - not on my time.

Someone today called my dog a cartoon dog, as she is very cute. She's a waggy dog and ignores most people and dogs. She is particularly partial to playing with Labrador's and spaniels. She is a happy genial dog.

But although she ignores most people in parks people glare at her for being there. She doesn't jump up and avoids children.

I give up with these dog haters

Some greyhounds (and any dog crossed with one such as lurchers) also smile. It looks like they are bearing their teeth to show aggression, but it is the opposite.

Yes my greyhound smiles mostly when she is lying on her back sunbathing as she loves it!
She also chitters her jaw which is a very unique sighthound thing people think she's shivering it's actually a noise to show extra happy and content.

But I know my dog and her body language so can understand for non dog people they wouldn't know at all.

My greyhound is constantly chattering her teeth. I am so used to it, and can forget that it is pretty odd to anyone not familiar with greyhounds. She is not a smiler though, and she does not roo either. She barks about 3 times a year!

Ahhh we have a rooer and a barker if a ball is involved!

I do end up explaining to strangers quite a bit about greyhounds when they ask about her as so many people have wrong assumptions about them! Wouldn't change my 40mph couch potato for anything though despite her quirks!
