Do you buy your kids Easter eggs?

And if so how old are they?

Mine and nearly 2 and 4. I’ve never got them eggs and tbh I don’t really give them all that we get given. They get given so many 6+ each and they are only small. They get the odd one but they get so many. DH and I tend to scoff them instead… In fact I’m eating one right now.

Also they have a total of 16 eggs! We’ve not seen all our relatives yet so I suspect they’ll be more. It’s too much.

That is insane, far too much. I'm with you, OP.

emmylousings · 09/04/2023 10:17

Nope, never have. They are pointless, you're paying loads for packaging. I'm not tight and I often buy chocolate for us all, but I just don't see the point of easter eggs. I admit that I did weaken this year though, and bought DC a lindt bunny each!!!

We don't because they will get plenty from other people. We normally get them a Lego set for the younger ones or a CD for the older ones. Then they will get a big egg, 2 medium eggs and a little one each from family. They will get about £5 each in cash too which I will either use to buy craft stuff or put towards a family day out.

A CD? did I accidentally fall into a post from 2002? I don't think we own a single CD and I definitely don't think we could play one on anything..maybe the play station?! 🤔

In answer to the easter egg question...yes they get a good few eggs and a little easter egg hunt, eldest is getting 1 big egg and money for a new ear piercing.

Yes, we do an Easter egg hunt with DS4.

BungleandGeorge · 09/04/2023 10:32

Yes I do and I let them eat as much as they want on Easter Sunday. I probably didn’t for a one year old, although I don’t think a one year old would eat that much realistically. I was restricted as a child and I think that does often come from a parent who is overly bothered by sugar content and weight, and perhaps is at risk of going too far in the other direction. 8 eggs each is quite a lot so fine to share some of it with you

Do you tell the people who give the eggs that you eat them? Why not just give them over the coming few months or say to people it's kind but they don't eat them.

Morningcoffeeview · 07/04/2023 21:14

that said. I barely got my 1 year old anything for Christmas because he has no idea. When they’re old enough to recognise who got what then I will make sure they get something from us. But they’re not there yet.

Your 4 year old is.

LT2 · 09/04/2023 10:45

Not yet but he's only 15 months! He has been bought Easter chocolate by family. I think in the future he'll have the small eggs from the bunny. When he's too old for hunts he'll start having the big eggs.

MathsNervous · 09/04/2023 10:46

Yes. 15, 12, 7 and 5.

Because then they (the parents) can't eat them😆
Yeah, I would feel too guilty to do that. I couldn't.

We've never done Easter Eggs.

This year we have foster child who in full of expectation. I reminded her that we did not do Hallowe'en, nor anything to do with Santa, so hopefully she has got the message.

Really no Santa why? How old is she 14

startrek90 · 09/04/2023 10:52

My kids are 8,6 and 2. They got a little basket each with a chocolate chicken, some little eggs and some hardboiled coloured eggs (it's a thing in Germany). They also got a book each. I tend not to give them too much because it's only Easter, they also get a little basket from grandparents and great grandparents and possibly something from their aunt. I never assume though that my kids will get anything from anyone else, it seems rude to me. If they and up with a lot, it gets rationed or we bake etc... I am certainly not like some of these mums on Mumsnet whose kids still have chocolate at Christmas. Definitely a bad mother to the people on here

BobShark · 09/04/2023 10:56

Yes, it's just me and my 10yo son.
I bought him a big egg and then did a egg hunt with the small foil wrapped eggs you buy in bags.

Nothing for me, though my parents and sister didn't send lively British chocolate parcels so we have more than we need.

They know we share them. I don’t make a point of eating them all 😂 if you get a box of chocolates at home do you offer them round. Some of the people are elderly relatives/family friends who are being kind. To tell them not to bother would piss on their bonfire. As I’ve said upthread those I feel I can say not to bother to, I do.

My youngest is only 20m but still getting flack on this thread. I agree with you.

We didn't when they were little and we told grandparents and aunts/uncles to not buy (which has been a godsend as it means we're out of having to buy lots of stuff for everyone 🤣).

We do now (16 and 14) and always do a hunt with clues- which they still did this morning! Not sure if it'll be the last year of the clues or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

How utterly joyless and mean-spirited.

@Pringleface im glad I’m not the only one to have thought that 😕

This is one of those posts you really hope isn't genuine Sad

Kids get an egg from us.
It's usually the only one they get (teen and tween), although PiL gave them one between the 2 of them today.

Sounds a bit tight fisted.

I would have thought a child in Foster care has had a difficult start in life and might need some joy? I hope you are a big fake.

tiredhadenough · 09/04/2023 13:06

@CraftyGin then you shouldn't be allowed to foster.

I really hope you are hairy handed

No it won’t, but I parent the child I have now not the future one 🤔 obviously when he does I will behave differently. Just like I won’t always need to wipe his arse.
