I am so looking forward to this film and all the merch that is bound to be out today. I was a massive Barbie fan so I am looking forward to it! Should you want to be a Barbie then you can take a photo and be one using a link on the official Insta account.

Cannot wait!

ASGIRC · 11/07/2023 01:16

Im really looking forward to it. Wasnt until I saw the trailer, but the feet bit was just sooooo perfect!
I loved my Barbies as a kid! Plan on going to see it pretty soon after it opens!

CrazyArmadilloLady · 11/07/2023 01:19

Wow, I saw the trailer before another film this week, and thought it looked massively underwhelming.

I didn’t even snigger and it doesn’t take much to make me laugh.

booseygoosey · 11/07/2023 01:21

My 4 year old wants to see this and a little part of me too... ummm will she be allowed as it sounds like it's a certain rated film.

Butterfly44 · 11/07/2023 03:55

It's 12A.
Which is rubbish as Barbie films and Barbie dolls/merchandise are aimed at younger children.
What to say to darling daughters who want to see the movie but are too young!

Niftythrifter · 11/07/2023 04:33

I read that the first opinions are out and they are good!

Technically you can take them as 12A is under twelves must be accompanied by an adult. But I personally don't let mine watch them so I can see where you're coming from.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 11/07/2023 08:23

I’ve got tickets booked! Going with a friend after we found out it’s a 12A. I’m disappointed as I was going to take my 7 year old but that’s out now.

purpleme12 · 11/07/2023 08:41

I just don't know whether to bring my 9 year old 😕

Butterfly44 · 11/07/2023 08:41

@SirSamVimesCityWatch

No, a 12A rating is 12 and over (not under) accompanied by an adult.

purpleme12 · 11/07/2023 08:44

@Butterfly44 no, 12a means people under 12 can see it if accompanied by an adult.
That's the point of the A

Sorry, just looked it up and I'm wrong! Grin

So anyone know if cinemas would refuse a younger child accompanied with a parent for 12A? Thinking a 6 year old here....

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 11/07/2023 09:48

Plenty of five and six year olds have been to watch the marvel films in the cinemas, they are mostly 12a ratings.

bookworm14 · 11/07/2023 09:55

My seven year old is desperate to watch this but I’m reluctant as it’s a 12A. The problem is 12A can mean anything, so I’d rather know why it’s been rated that way before going. Stupid to make a film about a children’s toy which a lot of children won’t be allowed to see!

BoohooWoohoo · 11/07/2023 10:07

Lots of children go and see 12A movies like Marvel and Star Wars.

My 16yo son didn't own a Barbie but will be watching the movie as he and his friends think that it looks like a laugh . I suspect that the movie is aimed at the nostalgia market rather than the market for the animated films which will be much younger.

MissAmbrosia · 11/07/2023 10:10

My DD is well into cinema and says anything directed by Greta Gerwig with this cast is going to be fantastic in one way or another. She's not sure which way yet though 😁

viques · 11/07/2023 10:16

I had dismissed this from my movie radar until I saw a cinema trailer for it the other week , now I am really looking forward to it, and Oppenheimer too.

I can’t help thinking that a lot of parents might be a tad disappointed when they rock up with their children to watch a cute movie all about Barbie and her friends…..

AnnaMagnani · 11/07/2023 10:29

I didn't want to see it but you all convinced me to watch the trailer and now I really really do!

Neverinamonthofsundays · 11/07/2023 10:47

Not out here till next week but I have just booked tickets for me and the younger teens. The older teen nearly choked when I asked if he wanted to come. Ah well more popcorn for the rest of us :)

I think you might have predicted some future AIBU posts 🤔

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 11/07/2023 11:42

Thing is, there have been loads of animated Barbie movies and TV series - which are great. This is doing something else. That should be ok too!

Skye85 · 11/07/2023 13:29

My lo is 5, nearly 6. Is anyone taking their kids this age to see it ?

My girl is 4 but a mature 4, she would like to see it so I will take her. I think the innuendo will go over her head tbh.

Crinkle77 · 11/07/2023 14:03

Sorry to spoil the party but look like a bad a shite.

LlynTegid · 11/07/2023 14:14

I am very surprised at it is a Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach film, so unlike anything else that they have ever worked on.
