I think a lot of people see it as a way to have an income whilst being a SAHP, but the children need to be much more tightly protected- and if they are the key focus of the content, then they need to be protected financially too.

I agree with this. These vlogging families seem to follow a pattern. The SAHP starts posting online when their children are small and builds up a following, the money and gifts start rolling in and they realise they can make more by selling their children than they would by working. Then a sibling or 2 or 3 follows, the other parent quits work to focus on filming and the children are "home educated" to make them available for content 100% of the time. Anything to keep the money coming in, and before you know it the children are financially responsible for their families. Sad

Secondbirthwhathappened · 16/04/2023 14:39

The gifts aren’t even that lucrative 95% of the time - you see the odd luxury holiday or refitted kitchen but most of the time it’s toiletries, clothes etc. I saw one blogger post photos of their baby in the bath to do an ad for some free bubble bath 😐 hardly worth it is it. People are very cheaply bought.

Secondbirthwhathappened · 16/04/2023 14:40

(The bubble bath was given to them free that is, not the public!)

Borntobeamum · 16/04/2023 15:55

The ingham family are one of the worst!

It definitely seems to be a pattern. I'm surprised the Radford's haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet with the youngest although to be fair they seem to be hardly at school these days with all the holidays so I suspect it's not much different and at least this way they don't have to pretend they are teaching them but it wouldn't surprise me to see them follow suit as so many of the other vlogging families have done the same.

I cant imagine how messed up it would be for these children to get older and realise that they were responsible for paying a lol the bills, buying the new cars, electronic and funding tue holidays etc. I doubt many if any of them have saved any of the money the children have made them for their futures.

Whinge · 16/04/2023 17:20

It's certainly unlikely. The parents spend spend spend, and then claim it's all for the benefit of the children. I'm sure some of the children love the nice holidays and mountains of toys, but children grow up and when they do they will realise their parents have sold their childhood and they have bugger all to show for it. Their entire life broadcast to the world, their births, every hospital trip, tantrum, holiday, birthday, christmas, fall out with a friend, you name it, every private moment shared with strangers just to line the pockets of their greedy parents. Angry

Wasn't some of the older kids getting bullied at school? Honestly...is all that money really worth it? Hope there's money put aside for therapy.

Mummy2mybear · 16/04/2023 19:24

Awful isn't it turns my stomach the little ones dont have a voice and yet are put on you tube videos for views and likes all for monetary gain. Elle Swift is another one I wonder if they care about the damage they inflict. Mothers should protect the offspring they hide nothing even address homes down to full labour I find it very scary what is wrong with them.

I doubt they care if the children are being bullied, like any vlogging family the thoughts of the children and the impact on them is not as important as the money. Although if they are being bullied I guess that's a bonus almost to them as it makes for 'good content'.

I suspect there will be no money left. How can there be when it's all spent on holidays, frivolous stuff, cars and other 'essentials' to keep up with the Jones'.

The Mills family was the creepiest one for me. Haven’t looked at them for a long time and have no desire to.

@Theoldwoman I hadn't heard of them so did a quick search.

The first result was an article saying the dad filmed his dead wife and included this in a video on Youtube. Please tell me this is a horrible misrepresentation of the situation and he didn't actually do this.😲

Secondbirthwhathappened · 17/04/2023 11:20

I also find the posts from mum bloggers who only have boys/girls (usually boys) to be really uncomfortable.

I’ve seen a few recently where the mum has got pregnant again, done a gender reveal and when it’s revealed as yet another boy/girl they either write a really long and unconvincing post about why they’re actually over the moon about it, or just seem openly disappointed.

Siobhan from the positive birth movement (I think it’s called) went on and on about how having 3 boys was brilliant and she wouldn’t care what she had next, only to have a girl and do a load of ‘OMG I CAN FINALLY SAY MY DAUGHTER’ ‘can’t believe I’ve got my girl’ type posts.

It feels like it all ties into the blogger image, the optics for an all boy family don’t work as well as mixed or being able to make everything beautiful and pink.

fairgame84 · 17/04/2023 11:34

I don't understand all the admiration for the Radfords. They've churned out kid after kid, the older ones are proxy parents because Sue can't manage to look after all the younger ones. The conception of Chris deserves to be a police investigation. Their TV show used to be fly on the wall but now it's very scripted. I think they would have stopped breeding years ago if it wasn't for the TV show, in fact Noel did have the snip but then had it reversed.
I don't think any of the children have or will reach their full potential because their parents don't have the time to properly nurture them and are more interested in making money off them on social media and TV.

SaturdayGiraffe · 17/04/2023 11:34

The question is, can children consent to being monetised?

I saw that the Sullivan dad in Scotland wants to quit his job and love off the money he gets from sticking his 12 children online at every opportunity. I hope it blows up in his face.

HistoryFanatic · 17/04/2023 12:05

Live not love.

Bamboux · 17/04/2023 12:15

River Phoenix, Corey feldman, brooke shields and Judy Garland are among some of the many children who were made responsible for financially supporting their families from a very young age, by performing.

That worked out well...

jay55 · 17/04/2023 12:37

There's an American woman on tiktok who is the grown child of a blogger. She's campaigning for more protection for kids and for the right to have material taken down once they reach 18. Especially medical info.

washrinse · 17/04/2023 12:41

I agree it’s very sad and alarming what these people share. There’s one local to me and her vlogs show everything about the layout of her house, her kids’ walk to school etc… not particularly sensible.

There’s one American mum blogger/influencer/whatever the correct term is and she has a daughter with Down syndrome. I used to read her blog sometimes years ago but it got seriously strange to the point she allowed some strangers (blog readers) to come and meet her daughter with DS, hug her, etc. The poor child having no say at all in this.

EmilyGilmoresSass · 17/04/2023 12:45

To be fair, I'm not a fan. But that daughter in particular seems very entitled. Couldn't cope living alone for one day without ringing her dad. Two kids by two dads in quick succession, neither of whom seem amicable.

Millie was made to look like an idiot for the sake of the show. They’d already said she had a house lined up when they set up that weekend living in her own episode. It was all scripted, and done to make her look stupid.

She’s not being entitled, she wants what’s rightfully hers. They’ve filmed everything from her pregnancies, scans, birth stories and the babies coming home. They have made a fortune out of her and her children, as well as her siblings, but I highly doubt that there are any accounts with the children’s money in. Sue likes spending and bragging far too much for that.

Sloth66 · 17/04/2023 12:51

I’ve never understood why young children aren’t protected from this abuse. They can’t give consent to be filmed, have no choice.
these parents are basically having kids for cash.

Kickingupmerrybehaviour · 17/04/2023 12:54

It’s like the Dionne quintuplets. They were horribly over exposed and abused by so many people for money. There’s also these people whose kids have deformities and birthmarks sharing their ‘journeys’ on Insta. I’m not sure about that. I looked different as a kid because of a big birthmark on my face. I would have hated my childhood documented through that lens.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/04/2023 12:58

These parents make me puke. There's going to be a slew of young adults in the not too distant future suing their parents for theft of earnings.

A child cannot consent to this way of life, therefore it should be illegal.

WheelsUp · 17/04/2023 13:02

It's a dirty industry that is exploiting kids. I woild not be surprised if we saw kids sue their parents in the future- not just for a share of the earnings but for the lack of privacy for the rest of their lives.
