Who are good male role models?

Just seen discussion about this on Twitter. We do talk a lot about the bad ones, but what public figures should our boys look up to?

Dwayne Johnson always seems pretty good to me - he seems like a really caring dad, but he's still 'strong' if that's something a boy finds important and he doesn't take himself too seriously.

NB, I think boys should be able to look up to women too of course. That's why I thought it was good to have a female Doctor in Doctor Who. I didn't think Whittaker was that great but the fact is DS loves Doctor Who and really liked her in it so I think it's a good thing he has a female hero figure out of that.

For my DS's its likely to be footballers, so Marcus Rashford / Harry Kane. One child is a Spurs supporter so loves Kane for being an outstanding footballer, but they also know him as a good and kind human too. Marcus Rashford is rightly well known by all for being a wonderful man who's trying to change the world.
They also have some fab teachers / sports coaches in their lives too who value respect and sportsmanship.
Plus the lucky boys have a wonderful dad and uncles.

I believe Tom Daley thinks it's transphobic to express concerns about trans-identifying male sportspeople playing in women's teams and events, breaking women's records, winning women's medals and scholarships, changing in the women's changing rooms, etc etc. His concern is all for the transwomen. The fact that it's not fair and in the case of contact sports actually extremely unsafe for the female players doesn't seem to trouble him.

Oddly, he knew exactly who a woman was and the importance of biology when he and his husband wanted a baby and decided to buy one by paying a woman to go through a surrogate pregnancy.

I never really think about public figure role models. Luckily my son has great family members and I have plenty of male friends and friends who are raising great sons too. He’s still young though so will think about this for the future.

He was questioning the value of vaccinating all children with a very new vaccine against a disease that is generally not effecting them.

I'm not necessarily doubting you of course. I know men who appear to be lovely but who are vile behind closed doors. Such a shame if true though, as he comes across really well in his podcast. Seems to really get it about women and asks great questions and seems to have well developed thinking.
