I hope Thomas Cashman gets a full life sentence.
This vile creature who murdered an innocent child and whos drug dealing has ruined so many lives has not even the balls to face court ,Olivia’s family or the judge !
What a cowardly waste of oxygen!

I think an additional sentence or a reduced chance of parole should be the result of refusing to appear in court for sentencing.

I'm glad he was before a judge who had gumption, whether he appeared for his sentencing or not.
The snivelling bastard should be wired to the mains.

^^this.
Apparently there’s a £250k price on his head because he might blab to get a shorter sentence; with a bit of luck he’ll have a dreadful time in prison. Can only hope.

I agree - minimum additional 10 years for refusing to appear. Their choice!

About time we started considering consecutive serving of sentences, rather than this concurrent nonsense.

For career criminals, serving sentences consecutively effectively gives them them a ‘buy one, get three free’ deal.

I’ve never understood this. Can anyone explain the reason for it?
42 years and he’s going to be hated in prison. I don’t think he’ll leave alive and I hope he suffers first.

It has been a thing since the safety and wellbeing of custody staff has been valued.

That’s absolutely fair enough, though I would’ve thought police officers could/should be involved.

Maybe add some years on for those refusing to appear.

hattie43 · 03/04/2023 19:06

Should have dragged him in . He epitomises everything wrong in society.

Sarahconnor1 · 03/04/2023 16:01

It's effectively a whole life term, all but in name. He'll be in his 70s before he can apply for parole.

The judge i think did a good job because she removes the possibility of appealing the whole life term.

I hope he never gets out . He can still lift a gun at 76 and could be hell bent on revenge . I wouldn't like to be that judge that's for sure

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 03/04/2023 16:03

Doubt he'll come out alive tbh

We can but hope.

SunshineGeorgie · 03/04/2023 20:32

Why do you all think he will have a tough time in prison? He's a drug dealer

midsomermurderess · 03/04/2023 20:37

He’ll have a hard time because he’s a child killer. One of the lowest of the low in their hierarchy.

I agree with you. Do people really think that a bit of kangaroo court justice dished out by other inmates is the way forward here? I hate this concept of the “righteous prisoner” that keeps getting wheeled out. What about the safety of the prison staff that have to deal with this? Who exactly is the right “type” of prisoner to dish out a kicking? He is locked up for life, where he belongs. He will never breathe fresh, free air again. That should be enough.

I’m confused, this report says the sentences are being served concurrently..
Is it just bad journalism then?

PicturesOfDogs · 03/04/2023 20:50

Just checked, it is concurrent.

Should have been 76 if run consecutively.
They need to abolish this concurrent bullshit

The coward has no balls.

ginghamstarfish · 03/04/2023 20:58

Should not be allowed to refuse to appear. Our justice system is crap. And he won't be in prison for 42 years .... no prisoner ever seems to serve their full sentence.

He will be on an ACCT due to his sentence and probably a constant watch due to the risk of him self harming

He'll settle and then be either placed as a VP or in general location where yes he will be a target

Being hot watered , assaulted , abused in all ways is common for child killers especially in such a high profile case

He will also be a target from the hierarchy drug cartel , calls are being made already to arrange threats , intimidate and enforce his silence

He is not in for an easy ride .. thankfully

AlecTrevelyan006 · 03/04/2023 21:03

i don't think that criminals should be allowed to 'not appear' - it's taking the fucking piss and they should be dragged by their heels screaming if need be

He will be. It's different when you are sentenced to 'a minimum of...' than when you are sentenced to 5 years. 'A minimum of' means that you have to serve that before you are even eligible for release. So Cashman will have to serve 42 years before he's eligible to apply for parole, however he's very unlikely to get parole if he doesn't admit that he's guilty. He would also need to have no negative behaviour in prison ect.

I used to work with a prisoner called Albert Dryden who had shot a planning officer dead on life tv. Once he was eligible for parole he got knocked back year after year because he wouldn't show any remorse and wasn't sorry for his actions. They didn't release him until he had had a stroke and was basically unable to do anything, he died shortly afterwards.

So he will serve 42 years. If he lives that long.

No they shouldn’t be dragged in like that, as it would be distressing for all concerned, not to mention dangerous for the staff having to deal with it. They should either have time added OR be forced to listen to or watch proceedings by way of an in-cell video-link.

electricmoccasins · 03/04/2023 21:10

He will serve a minimum of 42 years before being considered for parole.

Had the sentences for harming Olivia’s mother, Cheryl, and the injury to Joseph Nee, plus possession of firearms, been run consecutively, he would have been sentenced to over 70 years. He was sentenced to 42 years for Olivia’s murder alone. The ‘lesser’ charges run concurrently. He will not be out before 42 years, and I doubt ever.

I’m not saying it’s right. I agree with you that people shouldn’t be subjected to sadistic treatment, over and above serving their term. But his crime will make him vulnerable to reprisals, if that’s the correct term.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 03/04/2023 21:17

Maybe wheeling him in Hannibal Lector stylee with a gag so he can't kick off but can hear and see the proceedings would've been a good idea

Don't be ridiculous!

Staff have to manage that move....prison staff, escort and then court staff. You have no idea!

Northernsouloldies · 03/04/2023 23:42

He may not see old age and that's not down to jail justice. Prison environment is not condusive to a long and happy life. Dangerous, stressful, environment, bad food, lack of choices in life, mh burden. Prisons are not holiday camps he's forfeited the right to things we take for granted. Olivias memory will live on his will not.

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 23:48

Olivia’s mother looked utterly, utterly broken today.

That poor woman. I think of her often. My daughter is 9 too and I don’t think I’d be able to get out of bed in the morning if something happened to her.

I hope she can find peace somehow.
