Blown away by the cost of a box of a box of pukka tea bags in Sainsbury's. Yes £4 for a grand total of 20 bags. I was a regular pukka tea drinker but no more.

I've never heard of them, is it the same people that make the pies?

MYSTERIOUSGIRLONLINE · 03/04/2023 19:11

Tesco's is doing 4 pack Heinz soup chicken or tomato for £3.99. I buy in bulk as it makes a nice tidy saving in my purse lol.

Not tea but this price increase had me shocked the other day, £4.50 for dove deodrant+ I've used dove for probably 20 years but won't be any more!

Try Amazon. I buy the cream max one in bulk and it works out cheaper
Sprays are about £16 for 6
Check the scents too as some are cheaper, I'm using a men's one at the minute!

We do an identical shop each month (obvs top up bread, milk and fruit and veg in between) This month's shop was £230 rather than £200 for the exact same items. Staggering

That’s a lot more!

It was all overpriced and so much of it has liquorice in that I gave up on it, as even the ones I liked the taste of made me nauseous.

dollybird · 03/04/2023 22:37

I get loose fruit tea on subscription from Amazon, that hasn't changed in price at all, but I've had to substitute with more expensive stuff the last two times 🙁

I've used Dove for years, but it's got more expensive and started making me itch. Now I use Soft and Gentle roll on, £1 from Boots. Only two of the four different scents don't make me itch though, so I usually stock up

I don't know, it's to be expected? War, Brexit, nothing would be the great for a while, for sure. I don't know why people can be so shocked, tbh.

Because treats and every day foods alike have become unaffordable for many people. If you have a fixed budget in accordance with your income and everything you usually by has almost doubled in price, of curse you're going to be shocked. I have the luxury of a flexible food budget and have still stopped buying heinz beans and ketchup because the quality and price are no longer proportionate in my view. Fancy organic ketchup isn't that much more expensive, while markses and Waitrose own brand beans are less than half the price and at least as nice. My only complaint about te 85p Waitrose ketchup us that the bottles are temperamental with their squirts.

PickAChew · 03/04/2023 22:44

😂Nope

That would be murky tea!

PickAChew · 03/04/2023 22:44

Quote fail.

ImAvingOops · 03/04/2023 22:58

Yes @PickAChew, the Waitrose bottles are shit. I cut the soft plastic out and just pour it if I get a squirter!

All that happens when supermarkets take the piss, is that people stop buying stuff. I've realised how much crap I used to buy, that I didn't really need, now that I'm keeping an eye on the shopping bills.

Cereal is the one that gets me. I was tidying up the other day and came across India Knight's book on bring thrifty. It's from 2007 and she talks about branded cereal being a couple of quid compared to Lidl for 90p and I was thinking that a couple of quid now seems cheap for branded cereal - it's neatly a fiver in some places now.
I've just stopped buying it - fake coco pops are much the same as real ones and for half the price.
Brands are going to have to sort their shit out because people are discovering that Heinz, for example, don't make better beans than Branston or Waitrose own brand or better sauce!

Oldish thread but now that Tesco is no longer doing the "buy one get one half price" does anyone know of any other Pukka deals out there?

ssd · 17/04/2023 21:04

Its getting that kellogs cereal is an actual treat

Warnerswinter · 17/04/2023 21:13

if you have a Polish/ Eastern European shop nearby you’ll find a really great herbal tea selection . I love one which is cherry chocolate and chilli but there are so many good ones, including special ones for digestion, slimming, etc etc

Tilllly · 17/04/2023 21:28

Sainsburys own brand teas are nice (flavoured ones, dunno about normal tea)

Pasta sauce and jars of pizza topping are ridiculous now, even supermarket own brands

LadyPenelope68 · 17/04/2023 21:37

Try buying in bulk on Amazon, I’ve found it much cheaper on there.

meaniemaybe · 12/12/2023 20:18

Reviving this old thread because I’ve found some really good prices on Pukka at Tea House Direct. Just bought 80 of my favourite After Dinner bags for £12.49! Ocado wanted £4.75 a box and this works out at £3.13!

Pukka Tea

Pukka Clean Greens Superblend is another great option, as it helps support the body through every stage of a cleanse, without letting it become depleted. Favour herbal teas that will help stoke digestive fires such as After Dinner, Revitalise, Turmeric...

brokenstone · 12/12/2023 20:23

It's now £4.75 in Tesco and doesn't seem to be on offer as much.

CaveMum · 12/12/2023 20:28

I saw the cost in Tesco today and my jaw nearly hit the floor. I really like their Night Time Tea but ended up getting an alternative brand due to the price. Sadly the Night Time tea is sold out in that link kindly provided by @meaniemaybe

martinisforeveryone · 12/12/2023 20:42

What with food price inflation coupled with shrinkflation on sizes, I have no loyalty to anything any more, whether it's the shop or the product.

I have space, so when I find a bargain on things that'll store, I stock up. For an example I buy Milicano freeze dried coffee and it's often £5-6.50 but you can very frequently get it at £3.50 and for now, I won't pay more.

I also like Coffee Mate. Don't judge me 😁 It's £1.15 100g in Tesco and so I bought a big bag off Amazon and it comes in at 84p 100g. I know it's much cheaper at Iceland than supermarkets but there isn't one near me. Obviously you need the budget to buy in bulk and the space to store the goods, but it's a hell of a difference.

Onemorestepintheworld · 12/12/2023 21:05

I like the Pukka Night time tea but don’t buy it anymore as the price has gone through the roof. The individual paper sachets must add to the increase as paper costs have also risen. I get my sleepy tea from Aldi now (when others haven’t got there first!) and their blackcurrant and liquorice teabags are recommended.

JenniferBooth · 12/12/2023 21:05

Dispatches covering exactly this on Channel 4 right now

CaveMum · 12/12/2023 21:21

@martinisforeveryone i do the same with the Nescafé Azera! I visit 4 different supermarkets on a regular basis and if I see it on offer I will grab a tin.
