I'm well past breeding age. And I wouldn't cross the street if JRM suggested I should.

From a humankind point of view it registers in most brains. From a sense of law, order and to avoid societal collapse, capitalism requires growth. The world's population will continue to grow in absolute terms, but the rate of growth is slowing. The growth rate peaked in 1968, but is now slowing. Buy 2,100 the population is expected to level out at about 11 billion then stay level or even decline.

Some countries will experience a decline (and already are). The most growth will come from Africa. Already many countries with a need to sustain growth see Africa as a contributor to human capital.

Countries that cannot harness AI or robots to supplement humans will see a net decline.

One other point to make, if you can outbreed JRM then you can potentially outrun his DNA. That's seriously worth thinking about.

Perhaps he could deal with "men become better providers and dads" first.

Or we could increase immigration if he’s worried there aren’t enough people? If he relaxed it to people of child bearing age, then it would be likely they’d have children over here and the children would have British passports.

If JRM wasn't so keen on pushing Brexit meaning lots of younger EU workers could no longer come and work here to boost productivity then perhaps this wouldn't be such and issue. Brexit has reduced our GDP by 4% pa that's why we are in such serious trouble.

Also, life expectancy is increasing. And it will continue to increase – spectacularly so. Some predict lifespans of 130 by the middle of this century! No joke. Serious money is being invested in life-extending drugs, and in ways to slow and possibly halt ageing altogether. Within the next ten years, there will be senolytic drugs, and that's just the beginning. In other words, not only has the world's population trebled since World War Two, not only is Africa's population going to double by 2050, but soon people won't be dying and making room. And as if all that wasn't enough, we've got climate change looming. People like Rees Mogg are just insane. Overpopulation is the single biggest problem we face. If we're honest, it's at the root of everything from deforestation and pollution to environmental destruction and declining fish stocks.

If I was Bill Gates, I'd build a family planning clinic in every village in the world. It would do more to reduce poverty and misery than any other single act.

The world is insanely and dangerously overpopulated.

In the west it's largely because of people living longer though which is an issue when looking at tax, health & social care etc.

It's just a shift, western countries "dying" out, China seeing a huge reduction but growth in Africa.
