Tell me your funniest April fool?

I remember my older teenage brother having a long lie in the morning we were due to go on holiday. My parents drove the car with all our luggage around the corner, we moved all the clocks forward by 4 hours and then hid.

His face when he woke up and thought we'd left him behind Grin

I froze my kids breakfast. Was funny to watch them try to work out what had gone wrong.

Really funny.

Did physical violence ensue?

There were some selective phrases used 😄

KnickerlessParsons · 01/04/2023 09:51

There was a good documentary on the BBC in the 70s about how the car side of the moon had been colonised and kept secret.
I remember watching it with my DF and being absolutely incensed that this was being kept secret.

Many years ago before the UK knew about the world as only very few people travelled, a newspaper published a photo and a story about spaghetti trees where all the spaghetti is grown in Italy. I think it was late 1950's.

Everyone fell for it. People were talking about for ages in a "Well I never knew that" way. I know today it sounds very tame but at the time it was brilliant.

It wasn't a newspaper (how old fsahioned!!), it was Panorama

Simple one for me was when one of my work colleagues at the time had bought another one a fake scratch card 🙃 that was it for him, early retirement, buying everyone something nice, he walked out and went home...he wasn't as happy after about an hour 😄

Oh this isn't funny 😔

We have a local craft pizza takeaway that's a bit expensive and sells very nice wood fired pizzas with a limited range of toppings and nothing else.

They enjoy posting sarcastic retorts to bad reviews posted by thickos who expect them to be another source of cheap and nasty giant pepperoni pizzas and there's a bit of an in joke about them not selling chips. They've posted on their FB page this morning that they have a new addition to the menu, illustrated by a picture of some chips.

Now this is a good one - gentle and “if you know you know” kind of thing

I just fooled my husband - didn't think he would fall for this incredibly banal one, but amazingly, he did.

Husband: Oh, it's first of April, must turn the calendar over and see what type of dog we've got this month.
Me: I'll do it now, I need to take my cup back into the kitchen

Me: (from kitchen) Oh, for God's sake!!!
Husband (from living room): What?
Me : (coming back) April is missing from the calendar!
Husband: Oh, no - are you sure you didn't turn two pages over by mistake?
Me: No, I did this with them (gestures rubbing fingers together)
Husband: (getting up to see for himself) Where did we get it from?
Me: It was that pop up place in the mall in xxxxxx
Husband (by now in kitchen) looks at calendar, of course showing April complete with new doggy picture, and groans loudly as he catches on.

I don't generally like them, but I did smile last year at the village announcement that our parish councillor had run a short campaign and been made mayor of the village with a 10year post.

I told my chikdren there was the biggest b ive ever seem in the bathroom. When they rushed through it was a letter b. Laugh a minute I am. 😆

Haha, that is my type of humour. Love the simplicity of it 😂😂

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 01/04/2023 11:48

Last year we told (adult) DS that we were buying a Ferrari. It was something DH had fantasised about for a long time so it was slightly plausible. DS fell for it big time! Asked when we were getting it and took some time to catch on when we said “next April 1”.

My favourite one to do (back in the days of working in an office) was to put a little post it note saying ‘April fool’ on the underside of all my colleagues’ optical mice. Watching them all shuffling their mice back and forth, and eventually, inevitably picking them up and looking underneath was a treat Grin

This I like, it's gentle and no harm done but a bit silly.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/04/2023 11:58

@BotterMon , in the 60s IIRC there was a TV news report about the ‘spaghetti harvest’ in Italy - with footage of the spaghetti being picked from the plants!

PoseyFlump · 01/04/2023 12:08

@peeweechigs they only parked the car round the corner. Presumably they locked it and went back to the house.

PoseyFlump · 01/04/2023 12:19

I love gentle April fools. I did the old leek in the bathroom one this morning too. Hope we don't actually get a leak now else he'll never believe me.

garlicandsapphires · 01/04/2023 12:27

Years ago I was living in South Korea. I sent a longish email to my mum saying I’d joined the Moonies and was getting married. The whole family fell for it and were about to buy flights to come out and rescue me, then realised the date. Apparently it was the sort of thing I’d do Confused

Yamadori · 01/04/2023 12:51

I have found a terrific one today, very niche but you will enjoy it. No good at posting links, but if you search for Greenwood Bonsai on Facebook there is a post today all about compost.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 01/04/2023 19:01

Has anyone seen MN’s April fool post?! I just saw it on Instagram, brilliant!

I gave my DC a glass of 'ribena' with a straw that was actually a glass of made up, then set, blackcurrant jelly.

That was about 10 years ago and they still remind me of it each April.
