Basically what the title says... and what and how many are there? Smile

2 middle aged cats.
£25 each on insurance
Approx £60 on food: mix of wet and dry
Currently £20 on cat calming medication as they are trying to kill each other every day.
Approx £10 each on routine health stuff-vaccinations/flea/wormer.

Please don't misunderstand me, I love animals but don't understand the way people beggar themselves with vet bills when the animal is past redemption. My neighbour's cat was injured and reduced to pulling itself forward by it's front legs and dragging it's back legs sideways.
My neighbours and I begged her to put it out of it's misery but she kept taking it to the vet, £500 each visit, and all he could do was advise her the same.
Eventually she did.

Because some people are selfish and put their own needs before their animals needs.

Ringmaster27 · 31/03/2023 07:22

One cat.
£20 food (wet and dry)
£10 litter
£7 pet insurance
£9 healthy pet plan with her vet (flea & worm treatment, annual health check and vaccine boosters when needed)

H2023 · 31/03/2023 07:25

2 x dogs (cockapoos)
60 food
55 insurance
35 vets
100 grooms
200 walker (before I was on Maternity leave)

Timeforachangeisitnot · 31/03/2023 07:27

2 dogs, currently about £400 per month - which includes physio not covered by insurance for one, and occasional dog walker.
We have no kids to feed and educate so I justify it to myself.

Dozycuntlaters · 31/03/2023 07:34

Two cats....
50 on food
20 on insurance

One dog
30 on food
35 on insurance
10 on bet plan

Tropical fish

10 on food

Jesus that's a lot of money every month! 😂

KingofCats · 31/03/2023 07:36

2 cats
148 a month untamed cat food. This is a downgrade from royal canin they were on when I got them!

42 insurance
10 litter and tray liners

FfeminyddCymraeg · 31/03/2023 07:37

2 medium sized dogs:

£100 for food and treats
£40 insurance (they are only 2 & 3 so cheap to insure)
£200 on dog walking/sitting whilst we work out of the house

its a good thing we adore them 🐶

Cliffordthebigreddog · 31/03/2023 07:38

One Labrador:

food £30
insurance £22

we don’t have a walker as we walk him ourselves

Holidays are expensive - £20 a night to stay with his dog sitter (who he loves staying with!)

spiderlight · 31/03/2023 07:40

One medium elderly dog. Small fortune: in a good month with no vet trips, £120 a month for prescription food and £170 for insurance (with a company that has us over a barrel because of his age and chronic condition), but he's worth it!

Orcubed · 31/03/2023 07:40

Cat
£12 insurance (has just gone up a lot because she’s old)
£10 pet care plan at vets (vaccines, flea/worming/ annual health check, nail clipping etc)
food works out at about £12 a month although i just looked on the website I order it from and it seems to have gone up quite a lot so may be more next time I need to order.

I also had to buy feliway last month to stop her over grooming and that was about £60. Not a regular purchase though.

Hamsters we spent £35 on food/chippings/bedding etc when we got them at the end of last year and we’re not even half way through the chippings or bedding. Just had to buy more food at the grand sum of £1.50 to top it up because all the pellets that they don’t really like had sunk to the bottom of the tub and was all that was left. Will mix it better this time!

GobbieMaggie · 31/03/2023 07:42

£800. Horses aren’t cheap and don’t even talk to me about Vet bills.

Orcubed · 31/03/2023 07:42

Oh and we no longer buy litter because she has a corner of the paving she goes on instead. Easy enough to scoop and hose.

Baneofmyexistence · 31/03/2023 07:44

We have three older cats. We spend:
£115 on insurance
£33 on a care plan
£45 on food
£30 on litter
in a month

And then bits we might need over the year, new scratch posts, toys, treats etc but don’t buy these every month. They are 14,13 and 8 so the insurance is the main expense.

GreyCarpet · 31/03/2023 07:45

2 rabbits

Around £50-£60 for dried food, hay, fresh food, toys and litter.

LimeCheesecake · 31/03/2023 07:47

A small dog-
£40 a month insurance
£28 a month vet plan
approx £20 a month food
£300 a month day care (to be fair, I changed jobs knowing I would have to get dog care and priced it in to the new wage)

Guinea pigs - about £20 a month, they are no bother. (Also cut the grass for free)

goodthinking99 · 31/03/2023 07:48

Cat and dog...and when you add it up it's shocking! I try not to think about it too much, and I love the hairy ones:

Insurance £38
Food £50
Dog walker £120
Vet check ups/flea and worm treatments £17
Total £225....yikes!

I don't think I could cope with a horse.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 31/03/2023 07:58

£40 for two.Thats for insurance and good quality food. They eat very little as they are a toy breed.

Justonedayatatime11 · 31/03/2023 07:59

20 cats, cost £740 a month.

TheNoodlesIncident · 31/03/2023 08:01

I never actually think about this unless her cat food has gone up in price (which it has)... We've one cat. Domestic shorthair (eg, moggy)

£30 wet food, £8 dry
£5 Litter (Cats' Best, not the cheapest, buy a big sack)
£18 pet insurance

Pet plan with the vet (annual health check and vaccine boosters) was a one-off payment of £100 when we got her as a kitten.
Cattery: obviously we don't use that every month but it'll be around £286 this year, so £24 a month
Vet - she's had a couple of injuries over her seven years where she's been prescribed painkillers for muscle strain, but it's thankfully rare.
Carrier and toys - not many but I had to buy a new carrier as the old one was broken by the vet suffered wear and tear, so I bought an upgrade to top opening. One of her toys she's had since a kitten, a couple have been bought since. Brush was a one-off, bowls I bought some Mason Cash and Trixie ceramic ones as I preferred them to the plastic ones I'd bought on holiday.

She's worth every penny

BeansOnToast32 · 31/03/2023 08:02

Small breed puppy

£40 food
£42 insurance
£14 vet plan

No idea on treats and toys but too much 😂 I live 2 mins walk from a petshop which is dangerous. I'm always picking up a new toy or treat. Love seeing her little excited face when I present her with a new toy.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 31/03/2023 08:04

3 dogs.

Food £120 ish a month (2 are small dogs)
Treats £30
Insurance for 1 £40
Librela injection for the old one £110
Heart tables for the really old one £25

vjg13 · 31/03/2023 08:04

How does the £700 a month break down for horse owners? I had no idea it would be so much!

TheNoodlesIncident · 31/03/2023 08:05

No, I forgot the parasite treatment. £5.42 per month

Wolfcub · 31/03/2023 08:06

1 dog. At least £200 a month including insurance, food, sundries, occasional Walker, training/activities
