Bump. Very worrying about domestic abuse victims.

On the bright side, a lot of adulterers will get caught red-handed at home.

I believe that my elderly aunt, with dementia, has her late DH's phone somewhere in the house. It won't have any charge in it though. Can I reasonably assume that a phone that is switched off and out of charge won't be affected by this?

It would definitely upset her if it went off, but I doubt she'd even know where it is and she certainly wouldn't manage to change the settings by herself. Presumably, if the phone is dead, it's dead?

I was wondering this too, if battery is flat and/or phone is switched completely off it won't sound?

Just bumping this again.

redspottedmug · 22/04/2023 22:34

Be ready for tomorrow - switch off your phone if you don't want the alert to sound.

Putting it on silent will NOT stop the alert.

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 22/04/2023 23:37

Bump, let's keep this up top for those unaware or may forget. ❤

JenniferBooth · 22/04/2023 23:44

On a lot of Samsung phones it CANT be turned off and is already toggled to grey Another poster has a Samsung S8 like this. I have a Samsung Galaxy A20e and mine is the same. Toggled to grey and cant be turned off Greyed out.

Its unacceptable. We should have the choice.

JenniferBooth · 22/04/2023 23:46

I know this is stupid but im also worried it will fuck up my phone. The Governments behaviour particularly over the last three years havent filled me with confidence

I read it will only sound on Android 11 or higher. Maybe it won't sound if the phone is older?

CampfireZen · 23/04/2023 07:58

Bumping.

Stay safe everyone.

Okunevo · 23/04/2023 08:59

Android 12: Settings > Safety and Emergency.

Android 11: Settings > Search for “emergency alerts” OR Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings > Wireless Emergency Alerts.

Android 10 and older OS versions: Messages app > Settings > Emergency Alert settings > Emergency Alerts.

TheyIndeed · 23/04/2023 10:00

If you can't turn it off any that's a risk, then plan to switch your phone off from 2.55 to 3.05 to be sure.

How do you bump a thread?

How do you bump a thread?

How silly am I? Just realised you need to post a reply and it shows up at the top / hence "bump".

redspottedmug · 23/04/2023 14:56

Last minute bump

Sux2buthen · 23/04/2023 14:59

It was early lol

redspottedmug · 23/04/2023 15:04

Right on time according to my phone. Very short wasn't it, and I didn't have to click on anything.
