Is the alert going to smart phones, or all phones? My mobile is really basic and doesn't have anything to allow me to switch emergency alerts off?

Great advice!

Also as a PP said it is a good idea to alert elderly people or turn it off for them or if you have a teen with a phone.

Am I being truly naive here but I thought the most common reason / use for a burner was an affair?

It's never really occurred to me it's common for women who are trying to escape DV situations.

This is so worrying, in cases of domestic abuse, and for the elderly and some people with disabilities. My grandmother may well go into a panic, she only uses her mobile to call and text.
