URGENT - Newborn throwing up blood??

Hi all, I am going to attempt to attach a pic as 3 week old spat up on a muslin cloth just now and it is brown/pink in colour? My first thought was are my nipples bleeding but there’s no cracks or bleeding on the outside, nor any blood when I hand express some milk out?

Just called maternity triage and they said to keep an eye on him over night. I am very worried and not sure whether to go to a&e?

My son did this and it was bleeding from the stomach, due to pyloric stenosis. If at all worried, please go as baby is so young.

Straight to A and E NOW.

It looks like old blood rather than fresh blood, and its only a small amount, so I'd say it's more likely to be from the birth, is the baby showing any other signs of being unwell? Sometimes it's very hard to tell if there is blood in the milk too so not seeing cracks/blood when expressing doesn't necessarily mean it's not there. Obviously is the baby seems unwell at all then go to A&E, or if they vomit more blood, but don't panic. This is more common than you'd think.

If you do go to A&E, bring snacks, as you may be there for hours.

Thanks all. I did get him checked and they weren’t concerned (there was me sat there crying!!). They said it is most likely from my milk. Nipples are very red and sore just no cracks or blood but like some of you have said on here, apparently that doesn’t always mean anything.

I have to keep a close eye, continue feeding and take better care of my nipples (have to admit i’ve not been using the nipple cream these past few days), so I’m going to see how things go today.

Now the eldest son is unwell so it’s all happening… anyone fancy coming to help?! 😅

I'm glad all is well. I don't blame you for crying, when DS was 9 days old I had to bring him to a&e (told to by HV). I was crying trying to explain to the check us in. It's awful!! Yes use your nipple cream. I had to use nipple shields for a few weeks but that was to do with tongue tie. But they are always an option.

Hope your older son isn't too unwell.

Poor you! This sounds really hard!! Hang on through the tough days….easier times will come x

Bless you, can someone cook for you or maybe a takeaway so you can rest and cuddle whichever child needs cuddles. Try and have some rest time.

Bless you what a scare. My boy twin (16 weeks old now) vomited green at 2 days old and was taken to the NICU. So I completely get why you were crying. It's horrible isn't it! To put your mind at a little ease although I know it won't make you feel better 100% is the NICU doctor taking care of my DS said the main worry is when they vomit green.
