Fair warning, the NEU have said that if their members vote to reject the derisory government pay offer, they will immediately announce two further strike dates.

"If you vote to reject this offer, the executive has agreed to notify two further days of strike action on Thursday, 27 April and Tuesday, 2 May. The executive has agreed to seek local agreements with head teachers to ensure exam preparation is not interrupted for Years 11 and 13."

From the response on edutwitter and from colleagues, I think the offer will be rejected.

School did not have enough staff for Y11 last time. It was a bit trying.

surreygirl1987 · 27/03/2023 19:45

It will definitely be rejected, as it should be. I can't believe that even the measly increase they propose will be almost entirely unfunded.

BlackFriday · 27/03/2023 19:49

Too damn right it should be rejected.

They are right to reject it.

i am pleased to see protections being put in place for exam year students. I support the strikes 100% but the idea of them disrupting exam prep didn’t sit right

GettingThereCharleyBear · 27/03/2023 19:52

Our school doesn’t have enough teachers 24/7 now. If they don’t do something soon schools will have no choice than to move to on line teaching f/t as they’re won’t be the staff to cover classes of 30.

🤷‍♀️

Bear in mind, in the background to the pay negotiations is the Education Select Committee asking teachers why there is a recruitment and retention crisis as the lack of teachers urgently needs addressing.

Perhaps all evidence submissions should be of this pay offer, and of the Ofsted experience spreadsheet.

I’ve voted to reject. Everyone I know who has already voted has voted to reject.

Absolute insult to us and our pupils. Schools can’t fund it. It’s not going to solve the recruitment and retention issues. It is a shameful ‘offer’.

Sherrystrull · 27/03/2023 20:47

It's an absolute insult. To make it mainly unfunded just adds to that. How dare they.

carriedout · 27/03/2023 20:50

Sad state of affairs. I support the strikes despite the disruption. Shame on the government for what they've done to schools!

Really? I haven't been asked yet! If there's any reps out there reading this, how do I get balloted? I was balloted in the first round, so don't know what has happened. Am NEU member.

You should have received an email with a link to a survey.

Thanks, I haven't had that email - was helpful to check exact wording.

bluechameleon · 27/03/2023 21:17

I also haven't received the email.

NillyNoMates · 27/03/2023 21:28

It’s a no-brainer. Reject, reject, reject.

Ours didn't even bother. They told them to stay home and the teachers uploaded extra work.

DD missed two drama lessons just before their second practical exam.

I know that DD most likely has oral language exams in the first week in May. Sigh.

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 21:33

If you're worried about the strikes, please email your MP if Tory, and tell them to stop fannying around. https://www.writetothem.com/

The email will come out in blocks due to numbers of members. If not received tomorrow (check junk/spam) then contact your rep or NEU directly.

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/03/2023 22:05

NEU have said they will ensure strikes don’t affect Y11 and Y13 by ‘local agreement’ but I don’t know how that will look.

SheilaFentiman · 27/03/2023 22:06

If a gcse or a level exam is on a strike day, does the exam happen?

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 22:06

Yes, invigilators aren’t striking.

School did not have enough staff for Y11 last time. It was a bit trying.

It was a bit trying for the staff...they did very well in the circumstances. I'm expecting my Y12 to be off next time ( mine will work at home) and the Y11 and Y13 in. Plus the vulnerable younger children. (Who won't work at home )

It's a bit of a bloody nightmare for all concerned. Exam cohorts, children, teachers, slt, parents.

Can't understand why they think school budgets can stretch to an unfunded pay rise.

BCBird · 27/03/2023 22:34

Had 4 days strike already and still they are not listenin. No one wants to strike,to be honest a further 2 days will be painful- one wage, but know it's got to be done. Wish all who are eligible to strike did this and maybe it would be resolved more quickly

Cantseethewindows · 27/03/2023 22:49

It's an absolute disgrace of an "offer". Tells you all you need to know about the absolute idiots in Westminster!!! I'm so fucking furious, I don't know what is so hard to understand about needing to fund our children's education! I've voted to reject the proposal. I'm part-time and have only been hit once by the strike, but the next two both fall on working days for me. It's gotta be done!
