Yes. But the few people I have told never believe me. World famous chef. Our grandads were brothers 3 generations back, so not close.

The chefs mum is lovely though.

Mine is Peter Stringfellow 🙈
And yes have named changed!

I once stole a bottle of JD from Peter Stringfellows table at a VIP bar in Ibiza…not my finest moment, but I was very young!!

Tropicaliyes · 23/03/2023 23:40

My 2nd cousin went through a phase when we were like 7 where he was suddenly a relative of Boy George! Seems nobody else knew this but him🙄 not even the adults of the family or his own family🤣 we refused to claim that cousin as he was such a trouble maker it was a joke!

Mamanyt · 23/03/2023 23:47

Several, but I'm in the USA, and you probably wouldn't be that aware of them.

newtb · 23/03/2023 23:53

Am related to Lt Col Oliver North, and apparently the Churchill and Lascelles families.

CrinklyLoveStick · 23/03/2023 23:56

My cousin is married to a reasonably famous actor.

A great great uncle or something wrote the song 'I'm a troll, foll-de-roll' if that counts :)

I remember this song from childhood but I never realised before that the Troll had 3 cats, which is a genius detail and now I think he was probably just misunderstood.

I am friends with someone (an actor) who was a dancing banana (in full banana costume) in a video for Japan's version of Madonna many years ago. I couldn't possibly reveal his name. 😂

Snazzysausage · 24/03/2023 00:16

My Grandad's cousin was an Oscar winning actor.

Lifeomars · 24/03/2023 00:23

I was related by marriage to a rock star, he was really horrible!

Ca1yps0 · 24/03/2023 00:29

Yes, several.

And If I’d listened to my favourite great aunt when I was younger and she was offering to introduce me to this lovely young son of a family friend I might be living glamorously in one of the most famous addresses in the country now instead of a poky flat in Cambridge.

Yes- and it's so embarrassing that I've changed names for it!

I'm closely related to Roy Chubby Brown - and no, I'm not his wife! He's not particularly like his stage persona - that comes out when the flying goggles go on.

But yeah - it's not one I shout about!!

My cousin is in a band that was his support act for many years and always said what a nice man he was and not at all like his stage persona.

DH’s cousin is the mum of a singer who had a string of top 10 singles and a no.1 album in the UK during the 2010s. DH hadn’t made the connection and had no idea until his equally clueless dad casually dropped into conversation one day that “[your cousin] tells me [cousin’s son] seems to be doing quite well with his music.”

notangelinajolie · 24/03/2023 00:40

My dad was a legend.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 24/03/2023 00:43

Does anyone remember a similar thread years ago about what it was like to have a famous relative? One poster kept saying she knew what it was like because her mom was the local school headmistress and “Everyone knew her!” Apparently they couldn’t even go to the supermarket 😆

Whatthefnow · 24/03/2023 00:50

I'm Adele, but of course you won't believe me 😁

I am. But I couldn't possibly say who it is.

That really made me laugh 😂😂😂

I'll believe you, because I love a double-bluff. Grin

My distant claim to fame is that my great aunt's son became an Oxbridge (no, I can't remember which) Professor and wrote some maths textbook. For context, great aunt was maternal gran's mum, and my own mum is now 90.

Lysianthus · 24/03/2023 01:05

Does being famous count?

ToWhitToWhoo · 24/03/2023 01:06

Probably not. But there is a family legend that my dad's family are descended from Rob Roy MacGregor. No real evidence, however.

nepkoztarsasag · 24/03/2023 01:13

Grace Darling was my great great great great great aunt. Buys me cred in the NE of England in particular!

yajustneverknow · 24/03/2023 01:21

My dads cousin wrote tv series including shameless. Never met him though.

One of my DH's cousins was in a 90's boy band. They had a couple of hits here but were massive in Europe. These days he does a normal job and is married with a child so has an absolutely avergae life. He still gets recognised walking down the street in places like Paris and Berlin though.

DH's aunt used to run the fan club and was once sent hundreds of pairs of socks by a company as a promotional thing. They were distributed amongst the male members of the family. This is the only tangible benefit DH has seen from his "famous" relative.

I have only met him a couple of times but he seems alright.

Let Loose?

DH was related to a very famous actor (he’s dead now, I never met him) He was a ‘national treasure’ type who I’d always admired, but according to MIL he was a serial adulterer and generally an all round not-very-nice person.

Sean Connery?
