I’m related to Glenn Miller. I’d imagine more than half will need to google that though!

Distant cousin is the lead singer of a band.
My ds thinks it's amazing and we listen to them quite often. Though he wishes we were related to Tyler Joseph of 21 too, he's his idol 😊

Yes but they are no longer alive now

HormonalHetty · 24/03/2023 07:01

Oliver Cromwell is my 13th great grandfather

HoneyBeen · 24/03/2023 07:01

Yes, one of my brother's was a goalkeeper for many seasons for a premier League football club.

LlynTegid · 24/03/2023 07:04

Yes, but this person is in disgrace in the country they live in.

OperationMalena · 24/03/2023 07:11

Not famous, but we did our family tree and we are directly related to someone who was one of the original founders of the IRA.

Not sure what to do with that info.

Widoweddad · 24/03/2023 07:13

My sister is dating an actor who appears in house of the Dragon.

Do you have the same magnificent moustache as your mother? Although your dad's was pretty cool too.

I’m here for this post 🤣🤣🤣

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2023 07:17

I'm related to Adam and Eve, and they were really well known once. There's a book about them, I think.

VisitationRights · 24/03/2023 07:23

Not very exciting, unless you like rocks and fossils, but I am related to a U.K. founder of archeology (antiquarian, geologist).

Beezknees · 24/03/2023 07:31

Not me but I work with someone who is related to a famous British musician. Don't want to out myself so can't say who unfortunately but they're a household name.

darumafan · 24/03/2023 07:38

One of my uncles (don't know how many greats) was married to Mary Ann Cotton.
She didn't manage to kill him but did kill two of his children 😢

augustusglupe · 24/03/2023 07:38

I worked with someone in the 80s and his BIL was in Heaven 17

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/03/2023 07:42

@OnTheBonnyBanks Ooh are you famous?
It's a difficult one I think, I certainly wouldn't interrupt somebody's meal or be a nuisance if they were with family but I have to admit to asking for autographs on occasion. I did approach Frank Bruno years ago at Gatwick airport and asked for an autograph but I was a child and he was very lovely and jolly. Did the same when I saw a coach containing the band Heaven 17 at a service station. I was a big fan and couldn't believe my luck (I was about 13!). Again they were really nice and happy to oblige. I wouldn't do it now though.

I suppose being approached comes with the territory. It was the rude and entitled I took issue with. No "excuse me or apologies for interrupting", just "are you so and so, sign this".

KnittingNeedles · 24/03/2023 07:48

The uncle of the husband of my 3rd cousin 3 times removed was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll, who wrote Alice in Wonderland.

Was that the sort of strong family link the OP was looking for?

ArtichokeAardvark · 24/03/2023 07:52

My great great grandmother was a friend of Howard Carter's and came with him to Egypt as one of the official artists documenting everything they found in Tutankhamen's tomb. We still have an album of her drawings - they had to sketch every single treasure from the tomb to catalogue them.

That is a deeply cool thing to have in your family tree! I’m assuming your family didn’t get hit by the Curse?

My DSD is a well-known actress. She's been in a long-running TV series and in films.

Well it isn't Thatcher or May so that's two gone.

Ohhmydays · 24/03/2023 08:09

Ringmaster27 · 24/03/2023 08:09

Related by marriage to someone who was a big name in rugby Union about 10 years ago 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Alleycat1 · 24/03/2023 08:13

Also, my mother's cousin's son was the singer-songwriter Gordon Haskell and through another cousin somehow related to the lead singer of Mud.
Not me but my husband's cousin is a jazz musician considered to be in the top ten by his peers but not well-known to the general public.
