The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

These civil servants who worked with Raab and complained about him, they would have worked with other ministers.

Part of the way you can tell of someone uses bullying and intimidating behaviour is you can compare them to others who don't use bullying and intimidating behaviour.

Raab tells BBC Chris Mason “activist civil servants” wanted to block the work of government with “passive-aggressive” tactics.

On average, it takes longer for a criminal case to get to trial than it does for a Justice Secretary to be sacked.

11 Justice Secretaries in 12 years. Among their number the galaxy brains of Chris Grayling, Liz Truss and Dominic Raab.

No wonder the system is on fire.

Raab tells BBC Chris Mason “activist civil servants” wanted to block the work of government with “passive-aggressive” tactics.

So was he arguing that the events outlined in the report did not happen?

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2023 18:40

Something like that

The whole interview is on the BBC website

Anyone else noticed this current government are professional victims?!

Every time they are held to account "accountability and integrity" being what they wanted.

It's always "but mmmiiiisssssssssss. They're just telling on me and I want doing nuffink. They just want me to get into trouble".

I expect that kinda crap from the primary school kids I work with. Not the people elected to run my country.

They just want the civil service to be a bunch of yes men and do as they’re told.

Got to distract us somehow...

They rally know how to win friends. At best they will shorten the strike by about 20hrs.

At worst, the court upholds the precedent that the mandate runs out at midnight on the 2nd/1st and it pushes more people into voting yes for another mandate. And it’s not like they have the general public on their side here.

EXCLUSIVE: Dominic Raab set to be offered GB News gig...story via @DavidPBMaddox @Daily_Express

Ahem. Predicted this.
Obviously he hasn't accepted. Yet.

Notonthestairs · 21/04/2023 22:19

I have watched the BBC interview with Raab.
Three times he claimed that the bar for bullying has been lowered - and in so doing the Tolley report will put good government at risk.

But the bar hasn't been lowered.

From the BBC -

The definition of bullying Tolley used to conduct his investigation was set by the High Court in 2021, specifically in regard to the ministerial code - under which Raab was bound.

So what did the High Court define as bullying?

  • Offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, whether or not the perpetrator is aware or intends that the conduct is offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting; or
  • Abuse or misuse of power in ways that undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient.

No lowering of the bar.

Just application of the existing definition.

newnamethanks · 21/04/2023 22:28

The bar is bloody low for government ministers. Snake's belly comes to mind.

I initially read that as Sunak's belly!

Can we stop maligning snakes, please?

They know what a woman is...

Andrea "Middle Finger" Jenkyns -

"In the leadership hustings he stood out against woke nonsense, whilst other male candidates said they were feminists, he quite rightly said he wasn't. A true brexiteer, we were on the Brexit committee together. Im sure this wouldn't have happened to someone who is left of centre"

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2023 09:53

Always the victims

🎶but Corbyn

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2023 10:16

Just to have a moment of snideness, Jenkyns, ex (?) education minister, apparently can't spell courteous let alone know what it means

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/04/2023 10:18

She also talks about his ‘grasp of the brief’. So she may be talking about a completely different Dominic Raab. Presumably not the one that wasn’t aware Britain was an island.

itsgettingweird · 22/04/2023 10:34

Thing is. With all the "the bar is set too low on bullying and it'll affect future governments" he's basically saying "yes, I did behave in these intimate aging ways you've described and have been evidenced. But we should be allowed to behave this way and so should furniture ministers".

Jason118 · 22/04/2023 10:41

I've worked with Raab type men, the sort that value long hours and being 'the boss' above actually being any good at their job. When things don't go there way, it's never because of them. It's always 'well, I'm working really hard and shouting, so you better make it work'. No management skills, no thinking around the subject, no real understanding of people and how different we all are. Dreadful managers in every case I've seen. Good managers always listen, encourage, re-evaluate their own position, and get the team working for everyone's benefit. Raab couldn't run a bath with out it being the wrong temperature and not deep enough and it would still be someone else's fault.

newnamethanks · 22/04/2023 10:53

Thing is, these toddlers who've tantrummed their way to the top of the tree don't know how to behave without supervision- Johnson, Raab, CBI chap, and co. We, the public, should demand a government squad of Nannies to keep them in line. Mr Rees Mogg's retainer can stay at home though.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2023 11:12

You have to laugh don't you?

I wonder if all the Covid fines at Downing St were paid on expenses? Wouldn't surprise me in the least, it would be a rare thing if Johnson reached into his own pocket.
