Does anyone else prefer a paper diary?

Let me start my saying I’m not the most organised.

I’ve been using a diary on my phone for yonks. It’s ok, electronic reminders are helpful, but things still get missed.

I found a load of old paper appointment diaries recently and realised I really love seeing a week spread over one or two pages, and it gives me a much better sense of the passage of time.

Curious if anyone else is like this? Feeling like a right Luddite.

Yep, never put stuff in my phone, I use an old school filofax ... much to the amusements of my colleagues Grin

I love a paper diary and used one for many years but with how regularly my plans change it was becoming messy and confusing with constantly crossing things out and changing times/dates/places so I changed to a easily changeable digital planner. I do miss my paper diary but it just wasn't practical for me

Newjumper2023 · 23/03/2023 10:23

I have a paper calendar for this reason. Back up is reminders on my phone but use the calendar everyday and much easier to see what's happening over the week/month.

WithIcePlease · 23/03/2023 10:24

I love my Filofax still
I find it easier for flicking week to week and faster to write in.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 23/03/2023 10:24

Just checking in for the Filofax role call! It's unfeasibly large, but it works, and I can't plan stuff without it. Grin

Oblomov23 · 23/03/2023 10:25

No. Not for home stuff, I use my iPhone and don't miss stuff. What are you kidding?

But I love a diary at work, page per day. And a paper calendar on my desk.

EVHead · 23/03/2023 10:27

I have both. A week-to-view paper diary and a calendar on my phone that shows me day, week or month views whereby I can see what’s scheduled on each day.

Hedonism · 23/03/2023 10:28

Yep, dairy diary all the way here.

RaraRachael · 23/03/2023 10:30

I still have a small diary that I keep in my handbag. We also have a bigger family diary that we keep all sorts of info in.

I don't get people that live by their phones. I'm so old fashioned I print paper copies of boarding passes, concert tickets etc. I just can't get it out of my mind that there might be a problem with my phone and I'd be stuck

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/03/2023 10:30

❤️ my paper diary and am a total saddo around Christmas whereby I a have a "new diary " night ritual where I sit down would a new pen, stickers and washi tape and have a glass of wine while filling it in.

Like you OP I like to have a sense of the passing of time and I also find the "let me check my diary when I get in tonight " response to certain plans and people means I don't knee jerk say yes to everything. It helps me to Politely Decline when appropriate Grin

Paper diary here too. I always had a paper one for my boss when I was working as back up when the IT invariably went down and she couldn't access her online diary and I've stuck to a paper diary for myself for the same reason.

We have a paper calendar in the kitchen as well and like a previous poster I sit down at Christmas with my diary and the calendar and put appointments, birthdays etc. on it. I find it quite relaxing!

Walterwhiteswifey · 23/03/2023 10:36

Ohhh yes love my paper diary! Every Christmas the MIL gets me one and I love filling it in!

CPHB2021 · 23/03/2023 10:37

Die hard paper diary fan. Couldn't live without mine- sounds sad but it's actually totally genuine. I have to write it down to actually remember and like others have said, seeing a week over two pages, gives me a much better idea of the week rather than little dots on dates over the month on my phone.

evtheria · 23/03/2023 10:40

Yes, me!

I always buy the really mini year diaries , hardcover in a range of colours/patterns, from Card Factory. I have small bags so these suit me, as much as I love looking at people's full size, vintage designer leather agendas...

I also have an A4 desk pad that is a week to view, and one that's a monthly calendar. These are supremely satisfying to use, esp tearing off the pages after.

I just prefer tangible paper. I also read paper books instead of ebooks, even though it's more hassle, for this reason.

Spanielsarepainless · 23/03/2023 10:41

I have never bothered with the electronic ones on 'phone, tablet. A paper one is so much easier.

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 23/03/2023 10:41

I always use a paper diary as well as my phone too.

Love a bit of stationary.

SnarkyBag · 23/03/2023 10:45

God yes paper diary all the way!

I have an online calendar for work appointments but other than that I always refer to my paper diary.

ruralwanderer · 23/03/2023 10:45

I love my paper diary. I feel so much calmer and organised for having it. I use it to meal plan and all birthdays and days out go in. I couldn't imagine not having it now!

Rainallnight · 23/03/2023 10:50

This is all very interesting! Glad to know I’m not alone 😃

How do you Filofaxes cope with the size and weight in your bags? Or do you check your diary at home, like @tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz does?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 23/03/2023 10:51

Paper diary here also - Moleskine A6 for me!

FrenchandSaunders · 23/03/2023 10:54

Check when home, like PP you can bide time before committing!

fancyfrogs · 23/03/2023 11:05

I use my phone calendar a lot especially to remember on the go but couldn't do without my paper calendar. Every appointment/event/birthday etc is always written on and if I'm home I refer to that rather than my phone

beguilingeyes · 23/03/2023 11:07

raises hand Another Filofax devotee here. I have the mini version so it doesn't take up much room in my handbag. It's handy to flick through..which you can't do with an electronic calendar.
My husband used to laugh at me, but he's gone paper now.
I also make lists when I'm going away so I remember what to pack.

Slimjimtobe · 23/03/2023 11:09

I have a six month paper calendar on the fridge and it’s A4 and so handy (got it in Flying Tiger)
