Does anyone else prefer a paper diary?

Let me start my saying I’m not the most organised.

I’ve been using a diary on my phone for yonks. It’s ok, electronic reminders are helpful, but things still get missed.

I found a load of old paper appointment diaries recently and realised I really love seeing a week spread over one or two pages, and it gives me a much better sense of the passage of time.

Curious if anyone else is like this? Feeling like a right Luddite.

Yes. I have a fantastic paper diary with one side for work and the other for family (week to view). Also have a family calendar so can see the month in one go and an enormous whiteboard that I write up every week so that we can see who is due where and when, who's got packed lunch etc etc.

I realised a while back that I am quite a visual person!

Like PP, I don't like being on my phone all the time and just find it easier for an overview.

Filofax here too!
Each December I buy small squared paper, cut and hole punch to size and draw up my diary for the year and bullet journal the rest.
No other diary compares to one you've made yourself!
My filofax is nearly 20 years old and bright red leather, I love it.

I use a paper diary. Never use phone calendar. It just doesn't give the same visibility

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 23/03/2023 20:43

I used to get a paper diary every year and it sat wherever I put it until the next year.
I use Google calendar on my phone and tablet.

LemonLion · 23/03/2023 20:45

I love paper diaries but things change around too much for it to be practical to use one.

RoseGoldEagle · 23/03/2023 20:45

Yep! I’ve tried all sorts over the years but always come back to a paper one. I have a Boxclever one at the moment, a week across a double spread and room for weekly list at the side, it’s perfect!

Hawkins003 · 23/03/2023 20:46

Yes I use my Oxford journal, for various bits of information etc

Wherearemymarbles · 23/03/2023 20:46

At work I have an A4, page a day book,
and pocket diary. at home wall dairy with space for entries for all family
dont use my phone dairy at all

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 23/03/2023 20:47

I can have different colours for different events. I can set alarm reminders, I can set daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and any in-between for recurring payments.
I can have a week, month or year widget.

iusedtobeasize8 · 23/03/2023 20:47

I much prefer a paper diary. People at work laugh at me for writing everything down while they're tapping away on their phone 🤣

londonloves · 23/03/2023 20:51

I use a paper diary. I am freelance and use multiple email addresses so it gets stupidly complex having an electronic diary... we do have a shared phone calendar for family stuff though.

PinkBuffalo · 23/03/2023 20:53

I still use a paper diary! Week to view
It really helps me also the act of actually writing it down seems to helps me as well
I carry it everywhere with me and would be lost without it

at work I also use my email calendar but that is more to also helps my colleagues know what I am up to

bakewellbride · 23/03/2023 20:54

Me, I HAVE to have a paper diary. Just something cheap from the card factory. Then I have my pen with 4 colours so I can colour code (green dh's shifts, Red appointments etc).

Every evening I sit with my diary out and use it to make a job list on my phone for the next day.

I do this every single day except Mother's Day, Christmas Day and maybe my birthday.

I couldn't live any other way!

I was bought a mini size leather Filofax for my 21st. I’m now 51 and couldn’t be without it (even if it is looking a tad battered).

I got the standard sized one for my 21st!

That was 1980 when they were suddenly discovered by the Yuppies (they had been around long before). It looks very well loved now, I use it as my garden journal.

BCBird · 23/03/2023 20:57

I'm a calendar chick🙂

Cherryblossoms85 · 23/03/2023 20:59

I implement software for a living. It's all shite. I've never stopped keeping a paper diary.

I have a A5 notebook that I customise a bit like a bullet journal, but without the washi tape. I love that I can just keep going, if life gets too complicated and I don't write in it for a bit, no problem just pick it up again.

I use computers every day and have for work for nearly 30 years, but if I need to write anything longer than an email, I always go back to pen and paper.

wejammin · 23/03/2023 21:12

I have a 12 month paper diary which is a month over 2 pages, I love it as I can see my whole month quickly - 3 kids and 2 jobs make this essential! It's also very thin so not heavy to carry about. I have to use my outlook calendar for work so my colleagues can see it but I hate it.
I also have a paper to do list notebook for work so I can tick stuff off.
I have an app for tick lists for everything else though, which I love as I usually have my phone with me so I can add stuff as soon as I think of it.

Pinkplasticbathcup · 23/03/2023 21:17

Yup me. Much to the amusement of everyone I know!!

WalkAwaySugarbear · 23/03/2023 21:30

I live the idea of a paper diary but inevitably it gets forgotten about within a month. I've tried all sorts of diaries, bullet journals, filofaxs etc.

I have my Google calendar that runs my life and a wall calendar for the family. If I lost my Google calendar I wouldn't know where to start.

Moonshine5 · 23/03/2023 21:35

I have a beautiful diary and a fountain pen
{I have excellent pen(wo)manship!}.

Misstabithabean · 23/03/2023 21:53

I love my paper diary as I feel like I am at least trying to be organised with it! I write in pencil so it's easy to rub out if plans change. I like doing a to-do list for the day and ticking things off. Gives a sense of achievement at the end of the day and easy to refer to at a later date if there's something I haven't ticked off.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/03/2023 22:05

We were encouraged to have shared electronic diaries at work (school). Lasted a month. I deal with all the absences and trips and people kept updating it without telling me, so after two missed absences due to meetings I quietly went back to paper. (With colour coded fountain pen just to piss off the modernists) I also have a “diary day” when I put in all the holidays and important dates (with little index tabs)

Tribblesarelovely · 23/03/2023 22:17

I use a very old Filofax and will never let it go, it’s one of the smaller ones, so not a problem in my bag.
