39yo, 5ft 4, 144lbs. Walk about 11,000 steps a day (4 miles).

An example of a usual day:

Breakfast: porridge measured out - 280cals

Snack: 2 ryvita with Philadelphia light. Approx 100 cal.

Lunch: Baxter's chicken broth 164cal. 1 slice of rye 120cal

Dinner: grilled chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red cabbage, red onion, half a pitta bread. Approx 430cal.

Approx 1000 calories.

Would you lose or gain?

I maintain on 1300 cals a day and lower carbs but aside from a 1hr dog walk 4/5x a week (7000 steps a time) I work from home completely sedentary however I have PCOS. It’s very carb heavy in my opinion tbh. I would imagine you either have PCOS or a thyroid issue if you’re not losing or maintaining on that however still carb heavy x

Viviennemary · 21/03/2023 18:39

Sounds like a starvation diet. Especiallly if you are doing 11k steps a day.

Crispsdippedinmilk · 21/03/2023 18:40

Do you have any hormone issue like pcos? I have pcos and struggle to lose weight ans then very slowly even when religious about calorie counting.

I think you're probably not being honest about what you eat and drink.

Softsoftsleep · 21/03/2023 18:41

I would lose weight and be miserable. It reminds me of my skinny days when I lived like this. I am 5 foot 4 and weight around 8 stone 4. Something is wrong if you're not losing weight on this diet. There must be some miscalculation somewhere.

I now follow low carb/high fat and it has changed my life. Totally revolutionary.

LoveMyJackRussells · 21/03/2023 18:42

Lose weight, and possibly murder someone. I eat at least twice that!

namechanged221 · 21/03/2023 18:44

Eat a big load of protein at every meal.
I'd cut out bread and grains but have lots of veg, potato and seeet potato for your carbs instead

Whataretheodds · 21/03/2023 18:45

If this is what you're eating and your goal is to look slimmer then you need yo start eating more - especially protein but also fibre - and start doing some resistance exercise.

That diet will do you no good.

fellrunner85 · 21/03/2023 18:45

No exercise apart from walking, and a full bottle of wine on a Sunday?
I wouldn't lose weight on that, no. I'd be climbing the walls from no exercise and probably spend all of Monday and Tuesday hungover though.

mynameiscalypso · 21/03/2023 18:47

I'd maintain. I'm a bit taller and a bit heavier. The 10000 steps thing is a bit of a red herring; that should be the basic level of activity and it doesn't really burn a significant amount of extra calories.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/03/2023 18:48

I would lose a lot lol

Okunevo · 21/03/2023 18:48

Lose, feel dizzy, cold and unwell. I don't do well on low fat at all.

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/03/2023 18:49

Newyearnewhome · 21/03/2023 18:36

could be lots of things:

  • how long you been on diet? ( weight fluctuates by a few pounds over a month. Don’t weigh too often)
  • do you weigh at same time of day?
  • how controlled are your portions? ( you could easily sneak in an extra few hundred calories with milk in hot drinks and Philadelphia)

It takes a 3500 calories reduction to lose a pound.

if you don’t do any other exercise apart from steps, then you may only use 1400 calories a day.

that would mean your deficit was 400 cals, so going to be a while before you lose a pound.

id suggest cutting a bit more- maybe do the Fast 800 as it’ll get your metabolism burning fat.

build muscle - resistance training is good. This will mean your body burns more calories.

Portion control is key. But faster results with exercise combined.

That’s not how is works at all. You think someone needs to eat 1000 calories walking 11k steps and the weight loss is going to be minimal? The average woman burns 1800 cals per day doing no exercise what so ever!

Laptopneeded · 21/03/2023 18:49

It's not carb free it's got ryvita and crisp bread and pitta and potatoes??

Youdoyoubabe · 21/03/2023 18:49

I would lose..... if I stuck to it.

I would never stick to it so .....

I would gain.

No. You wouldn’t maintain. You are burning 1800 calories per day by just being alive and doing normal activities. Don’t be ridiculous.
Honestly some weird stealth boasts on here / competitive low calories brags. Weird.

Joystir59 · 21/03/2023 18:51

Would massively lose weight on rhis

Namechanger355 · 21/03/2023 18:53

I’m the exact same weight, height and age as you (38) as you after having my second and struggling to lose the remainder

it’s not overweight or obese. But I’m not at my happy weight

i would lose on that diet but I also don’t think it’s sustainable

you should also check body fat percentage and not just weight given muscle is denser than fat

but In any case you should speak to a dietician to work up a proper plan and also check whether you could have any thyroid / hormonal issues stopping you from losing this

mynameiscalypso · 21/03/2023 18:54

@PurpleWisteria1 Trust me, I know my body and I know how many calories it needs to survive, to lose weight, to maintain. 1,800 is just an average, some women need less and some need more. I need less. It's not a stealth brag just my experience 🤷🏻‍♀️

Newyearnewhome · 21/03/2023 18:54

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/03/2023 18:49

That’s exactly how it works…the rate you burn calories varies enormously from person to person. You can’t say it’s 1800. That’s an average, so by definition will include a wide range of rates- from 1400-2500! That is how averages work.

I maintain a steady weight at 1700 and I exercise A LOT! ( 10k steps is minimum I do- just for everyday stuff before exercise)

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/03/2023 18:55

Anyone who is saying they would put on weight or maintain eating 1000 cals for a prolonged time needs to turn it in.
Unless you are a tiny person, bed bound you will be losing weight on 1000 cals as this is less than the body uses just to keep you alive.
The diet is not good for many reason. But you will lose weight eating 1000 cals only every day.

RaininSummer · 21/03/2023 18:55

I would be very hungry and also shaky on that amount and type of food. I imagine I would lose weight but as that way of eating would be utterly unsustainable, I would put it back on double in no time.

Nosleepforthismum · 21/03/2023 18:55

You poor thing. I could eat all of that by lunch and still be starving. I’m taller than you at 5ft8 and I’m lucky that my height gives me more leeway with calories. The one thing though that consistently works for me however when I feel the weight creeping on is to skip breakfast. It knocks out calories that you can add on to your other meals to make them seem less depressing. Occasionally I will just do a one meal that day (I.e. Sunday lunch) if I know it’s going to be amazing. Apart from that, I think you are doing awesomely and you have way more will power than most of us.

DoesItHaveKosovo · 21/03/2023 18:57

I’d lose weight if I stuck to it but I’d be hungry and miserable. Ditch the wine and the Ryvita and the tinned soup, and replace it with more protein and green veg. Lentil soup, brown rice, broccoli, avocado, spinach…
