What's the worst film you've ever watched? Think I just melted my brain...

...by watching Spy Intervention on Prime. It has Drew Van Acker in it of PLL fame and I was looking for something a bit easy, he's pretty (I know, I know, very high brow of me) and dear GOD it was terrible. I may have to burn my own eyes out - was it a romance, was it a comedy? Was it just fucking terrible? yes, yes to the latter.

I can't quite believe I kept watching until the bitter end, I think I was expecting something to happen that would explain why it was so bad?

What's the worst film you've ever watched?

PS: DVA WAS pretty in it. Very. But it still wasn't enough to save it.

And the fairly recent one with Ben Affleck and his hot wife who walks around wearing hot clothes and shags everyone while he pouts and looks meaningfully at the camera. My BF loved it. Can't think why 🙄

Is it the Marylin Monroe film? 😂 I heard that was absolutely horrendous and my (normally quite tolerant for crappy films) parents switched it off when "Marylin" was having a threesome in a cinema watching her own film or something like that

Has anyone seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? I honestly still can't believe what I have seen for (what felt like) 7 hours. I just had no words.

I thought I'd hate it but I loved it. It helps that I watched it on download so I watched it in three chunks.

I don't blame you though. I deplore the fashion for arse-achingly long films. Bloody Babylon, which I liked but which was flabby in the middle and indulgent. Luckily we were able to squeeze in some cheese and wine afterwards for just under an hour before my friend needed to run for the last train home, I go to see films not just for the film but for the dinner and conversation afterwards and it is arrogant of these filmmakers to demand all my precious time and not recognise that their every thought is not worth it.

Most films can be brought in at 2hrs 15 mins tops and it's willy-waving and proof that you need an editor who says: "This bit isn't as good as you think it is, Quentin. And that 15-minute sequence about Leonardo di Caprio's comeback can be done in three minutes."

But it is clever and funny and I love the end but I hate myself because Quentin Tarantino is such a dick and I'm sure I wouldn't like him if I met him.

Anything with Nicholas bloody Cage, hate Jim Carrey (except the Truman Show). Avatar
The Signal (had to sit on my hands to avoid grabbing bag and walking out of cinema. Husband agreed.
Mamma Mia with all those blondes who look the same. Was it her when she was young or is it her daughter...just got lost.
Oh and loved Once upon a time in Hollywood. Loved watching the Manson family die horrendous deaths at the hands ol Leo and Brad, so Sharon Tate, her baby and friends don´t get killed. Very refreshing. Never got why they didn´t fry Charles Manson. But that´s another thread.
The Matrix, you have to be male to like it. I´d rather chew glass.

XelaM · 21/03/2023 12:17

@limitedperiodonly Sorry I have to assume you were under the influence of a lot(!) of wine and cheese if you liked that indescribable shite 🤣

BebbanburgIsMine · 21/03/2023 12:17

Total Recall

My XH made me go with him to see it at the cinema, I've never been so bored in my life,

Moulin Rouge! should have been amazing, but I can’t stand Baz Luhrmann’s style of directing. He seemed to be more interested in “re-inventing the musical”, than telling a story. I thought the film was an overblown, incoherent mess. I prefer the old film (Moulin Rouge) starring Jose Ferrer.

When Australia came out, my then boyfriend really wanted us to go and see it. When I heard it was nearly three hours long and directed by Bazza, I refused to go. BF went on his own and later admitted it was shite.

I feel exactly the same about Baz Luhrmann, and quoted Elvis, upthread, as one of my least favourite films.

Was thrilled to hear Mark Gatiss, just recently, saying how he cannot bear his films either. I felt vindicated in not getting all the Luhrmann love.

Birdman.....wtf was it about?

Yes!! Also yes to "Everything Everywhere...."

I watched 5 minutes of LaLa Land and had to switch off

Also - Her

TrashyPanda · 21/03/2023 12:30

Titanic. Couldn’t wait for him to die. Would have been better if she’d died too. Because the film would have been shorter.
Les Miserables - love the stage show, was bored rigid by the film

pigalow27 · 21/03/2023 06:18

Cowboys vs Aliens - there was a very good reason no one had created this hybrid genre before

I loved this! Daniel Craig in chaps 😎

SerafinasGoose · 21/03/2023 12:35

The one with the singers dressed as Lufthansa cabin crew. 'Pitch Perfect'.

This is the kind of thing I'd never have watched in a million years, only some joker of a Module Leader put it on a film module I happened to be co-teaching.

Teaching this bilge - can you imagine?

This might have to top my list as the worst ever. Abysmal dross.

On a serious note, Dead Poets Society. The worst film I've ever ever ever seen.

On a different note all together Magic Mike. I went to see a film about men stripping not a film about drugs.

Dead Poets Society is one of my favourite films!

I also loved Elvis and Gravity

Anything with tom cruise

Jeepers creepers
Time travellers wife
Predestination
Shrooms
Teeth

And of course the room.but at least thats watchable because ita so bad its hilarious you just have to keep watching it

Scrolled through 13 pages to find The Room! One of the best worst movies ever, if not the best - I quote it all time, it is incredible.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 21/03/2023 12:48

The Greatest Showman- good music, terrible film

Left Behind- most definitely!

Ghost Rider- not even my beloved Sam Elliott could save that mess

The Beach- I was so bored I started chatting to my mate and got told off by another cinema-goer (I was an obnoxious 16 year old)

500 Days of Summer- this film worked marvellously as a sedative.

Lavalantula- we just watched this last night since it links to the Sharknado series (which I love), avoid like the plague!

HeathenPlayingHouse · 21/03/2023 12:49

And before I forget...

Splice- 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

That is all.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 21/03/2023 12:57

So bad it's good - Anonymous (the Tudor rose scene made me laugh to tears). Bad but wasn't meant to be bad - Manchester by the Sea. Fucking hell. So so turgid.

Also, absolutely anything with Jim Carrey. He can't act and he's not funny and I can't believe they kept putting him in movies. Now he just looks like Moses and makes terrible art. It suits him.

Oh yes this! I HATE Jim Carrey. He did make one good film, think it was called 21 or something.

reesewithoutaspoon · 21/03/2023 13:16

Can I join you in the Jim Carrey hate? I cant watch anything hes in because I just want to punch he stupid gurning face. Its the equivalent of scratching nails down a blackboard to me.

Yes?! Forgetting Sarah Marshall is my worst as well. The plot is ridiculous and reads like the writer has no idea how service jobs work. Why would beautiful receptionist fall for mopey, ugly, whinging guy? Why did she act like his ‘musical’ was anything other than cringey nonsense? So many questions.

You should read this tigerbeatdown.blogspot.com/2009/04/forgetting-sarah-marshall.html

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Superemosogynisticexpialadocious. If You Make a Film of It, It's Really Quite Atrocious!

Night at the museum.
The shape of water
Donnie Darko
Beetlejuice

Throwaway0323 · 21/03/2023 13:31

Is Triangle the film on a boat? I just didn't get it!

I spit on your grave was a horrible movie.

I didn't enjoy The Experiment either.

Some ridiculous film where someone got battered and shot the swam across a lake or something unrealistic and had their head microwaved. I think it was last house on the left but I might be wrong.

I'd also like to join this club.

He sets my teeth on edge.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/03/2023 13:41

There was a rubbish Robin Williams film - "Jack" that my DD wanted to see for her birthday.

Williams played the title role - a little boy with progeria. It was tedious and frankly, unpleasant.

Children with progeria don't grow up - they grow old. Williams having sleepovers with a bunch of eight year old and laughing about f*rts was just . . . nasty, somehow.

WingingItSince1973 · 21/03/2023 13:52

Some some of my favourite films are on here 😂 Dead Poets Society, Notting Hill, Moulin Rouge. All 3 have sentimental value I think not necessarily good storylines. Apart from Dead Poets which always makes me tingle (not in that way 😂)

WingingItSince1973 · 21/03/2023 13:53

SwishSwishBisch · 21/03/2023 11:59

Objectively it’s Tommy Wiseau’s magnum opus “The Room”, but while absolutely indisputably terrible, it is also one of my favourite films ever! 😂

Is that the one based on the book? If so the book is much better of course but I watched it to see if it translated what was in my head onto the screen.

LouisCatorze · 21/03/2023 14:03

Joe versus the Volcano with Meg Ryan.
