Clothes smell sweaty after washing

One of my children's clothes are still smelling of sweat after being washed! They wear Deodorant, how can I get this smell out of their clothes?

Thanks

Add soda crystals /bicarb soda in your load.
Maybe soak them first.

Also what about a stronger deodorant?

EggyBreads · 20/03/2023 09:55

Do you use biological powder? That's the best thing imo.

Sotired22 · 20/03/2023 09:55

Dettol laundry cleanser is good at freshening smelly clothes, sometimes my sons stuff smells really musty after a wash but if I wash it again and add this it comes out smelling lovely.

I find some of my clothes, not all, start smelling really quickly after wearing them the 2nd time. It is as if washing hasn't quite got rid of it all. I find if I spray those clothes with febreeze then leave to dry and then wash as normal that stops it.

ihatewinter2 · 20/03/2023 10:27

Try washing them in smaller loads too OP x

Nowillpowerarall · 20/03/2023 10:33

Thank you. I might have some soda crystals somewhere.

Halo sports wash is really good for getting ready of sweaty smell on clothes, also spraying pit seams of clothing with white vinegar spray before putting into wash

Skiphopbump · 20/03/2023 10:36

Bio powder and wash at 60c. My machine has an eco setting which washes at 30-40c, DS needs his clothes washed at 60c or they start to smell funky.

Nowillpowerarall · 20/03/2023 10:37

I think they would shrink I I wash at 60

Wash again at 60 degrees.

motherofawhirlwind · 20/03/2023 10:40

Dettol Laundry Cleanser and soak them for a good couple of hours. Sunshine drying helps too when the weather gets better.

DD's school shirts were polyester and terrible for it, but she also has certain tshirts that seem to be affected too.

BertieBotts · 20/03/2023 10:41

Well maybe, but if you're on the verge of throwing them away then it's worth a try before you do.

I've only had a wool item shrink at 60, nothing else.

balconylife · 20/03/2023 10:41

Biological washing powder
Smaller loads
Extra rinse
Higher temperature
Dettol Laundry Cleanser

Thank you, 2 are new tops so don't want to throw away!

Yep I agree you need to go to 60. My daughters school shirts stink, they need the high temp.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 20/03/2023 10:52

Vinegar!

premicrois · 20/03/2023 10:53

Is it just certain clothes or could it be the machine?

I would do a towel wash at 90 to give the machine a good clean, then use a pre wash for smelly clothes.

Nowillpowerarall · 20/03/2023 11:01

Hi its just my daughters clothes! I did try pre soaking in vinegar. That did help. I thought it was just school shirts but it's 2 other new tops as well.

Also, I don't mean this the wrong way, but make sure she's actually washing daily - and removing all traces of old deodorant before starting afresh. (Suggested with kindness from a mum of three boys. YMMV!).

dementedpixie · 20/03/2023 17:11

DR Beckmann spray for deodorant stains and then use fabulosa laundry sanitiser (or other brand) instead of fabric softener

Runninginhotpants · 20/03/2023 17:15

I have this issue with vest tops fro primark- not sure if it’s the fabric but no matter how hot I was or whatever detergent it always lingers. I’ve discovered that if I hand scrub these areas in the sink first with hot water and a bar of soap, then wash it with bio powder it makes a massive difference.

Thank you, taken with kindness! She's nearly 16 and does shower daily, sometimes twice a day!

Bar of soap for underarms

Spray with white vinegar in pits of clothes

Use Dettol laundry and add white vinegar

Slimjimtobe · 20/03/2023 17:40

Vinegar or if bad soak in vinegar and bicarbonate soda
