What time do your DC get up on a weekend if left to their own devices, & how old are they?

DC is 4 and gets up around 6

DS (5) usually has to be woken up on a school day and dragged out of bed about 7:45.

Then weekends he gets up at 6am!

Oh look it's Monday morning and guess who's still snoring away when yesterday at 5:50am someone jumped on me saying "morning mummy!" Hmm

For those posters who wake up their older teen kids when they have nothing on, why do you do this? This would never cross my mind to wake them unless they needed to be up. Surely that's one of the lovely things about being a teen 😂

I do this with DD2. She has quite serious mental health issues and needs to be kept in as much of a routine as possible. On a day off for her she needs to be taking her meds in the morning at the normal time with a meal, get out for some fresh air during daylight hours and she needs to be going to bed at a fairly consistent time too.
DD1 - no problem, she can go to bed at 5am and wake up at 2pm if she likes (she’s at uni now so I actually don’t really know what her sleep patterns are 😂) but she’s okay to do that.
It fucks badly with dd2 though and we have been advised by multiple people to keep her in as much of a regular routine as possible.
Otherwise I agree, it’s one of the best things about being a teenager, the ability to be up all night and sleep all day! I have fond memories of doing this myself 😀

pinkstripeycat · 20/03/2023 07:38

DS15 7.30am yesterday (Sunday). Always been an early riser.
DS17 Saturday was 7.30am (shocked), normally around 10.30am. Didn’t sleep through the night until he was 7yrs old and still got up at 6am.

Dd1 (12) school day 6.45, weekend about the same time sometimes a little earlier. She stays in her room until 7.30 still, can read with her light on - an old rule we decided on when she was about 7 and often woke at 6 every weekend.

Dd2 (10) school day 7.00 weekend anytime between 7.30-9.30 it's not the weekend unless she had a lye in according to her.

Dp or I are often woken by the cats on a Saturday morning we get up around 6. One of them was sitting on my head at 5am this weekend. 🙄

fgdk · 20/03/2023 07:47

7am, I've never let them get up before 7.

12 year old just getting to the stage of sleeping in a bit on weekends.

This makes complete sense, there will be reasons why it's necessary for sure. My friend has been in the same position and had to do the same as it caused quite bad insomnia if going passed normal bed time.

I wouldn't do it just for the sake of it though, just seems really controlling.

ThreeRingCircus · 20/03/2023 07:51

6 years old and 3 years old. Both up between 6.30am/7am. Reliably go to bed around 7.30pm so we get an evening to ourselves, I'll miss that as their bedtimes get later!

Cuwins · 20/03/2023 07:59

Just turned 1 and she is nearly always awake between 5-5:30. If she has had a bad night (she still doesn't sleep through) she might sleep till 6am or she might be up even earlier- sometimes restless from 4am!
I'm hoping she learns to sleep through soon and maybe go till 6am although a consistent 5:30 would still be nice!

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 20/03/2023 08:02

DD7 on a weekend probably about 8.30 but will probably lie in bed for about 30 mins reading before getting up. She is a night owl, always has been and loves a lie in, she's very good at compensating with sleep as needed. This all said she didn't sleep for the first 4 years so I feel entitled to some payback now.

Howmanysleepsnow · 20/03/2023 08:07

DS9 8.30
DS10 7.45 (was 6.30 until a year ago)
DD15 10.30
DS17 2pm…. I tend to wake him around 10.30

TheChosenTwo · 20/03/2023 08:26

@ImAGoodPerson i agree, if she wasn’t how she is I wouldn’t really intervene but it’s too dangerous for her to get all out of her regular routine, she’s just had a big crash recently and it’s more important than ever that we are strict with her sleep hygiene, she has a boyfriend who says he has insomnia and her phone and all tech stays with me overnight, I have to switch it all off properly as otherwise it buzzes literally all night long with messages from him and snapchat notifications from friends. It’s crazy, she needs to have time to properly switch off.
I’m glad I was allowed to sleep in as much as I wanted! Dd2 feels very hard done by but does at least understand why we have to do it. It does mean I can’t have mammoth long lie ins too but then I also have ds2 anyway 😂 plus I’m not sure I could sleep in for very long anymore, I tend to naturally wake up when my alarm would be going off anyway.

It must be difficult for her but in the long term much better bless her.

Yep, I'm the same, 9am feels like bliss now, usually I will have let the dogs out at 730 then we all go back to sleep at the weekend.

OceanbreezeSun · 20/03/2023 08:48

DD3 wakes around 7.30am
DS 8 weeks old wakes around 8am
I’m sure this will probably change with potential sleep regressions, so I’m making the most of my lay ins!

Phos · 20/03/2023 08:49

DD is 6 and will wake on a weekend any time between 7:30 and 9.

Longwhiskers · 20/03/2023 08:57

8 yr old - between about 5.50-6.30am. He doesn’t disturb us. But we’re usually up by 6.30 anyway. I can count on one hand the number of times he’s slept past 7am since babyhood.

5 yr old - on a good day about 7.15am, on not great days about 6.15am which is not enough and she’ll be grotty.

dameofdilemma · 20/03/2023 08:59

Dd (10) gets up around 9am at the weekend. Has to be dragged out of bed at 8am on a school day.

Until recently it was even later at weekends. Since puberty she just needs more sleep.

Abouttimemum · 20/03/2023 09:00

Just about to turn 4 and anywhere between 6 and 7am. Asleep for 7.30pm.

IncompleteSenten · 20/03/2023 09:01

22 - about 3pm. Sometimes later. Sometimes he'll be getting up at the same time I'm going to bed.

23 - anywhere between 7 and 10 am

MargaretThursday · 20/03/2023 09:02

22yo 8.00 weekdays, about 12-1 weekends
19yo widely varies from 7am-3pm
15yo 7-7.30am and has done since a baby.

BelleSauvage9 · 20/03/2023 09:10

Dd1 is 11 and gets up around 7. She normally still gets up around then on the weekend too, but sometimes 8ish if she's had a later night.

Dd2 is 1 and usually wakes at 7:30

Bustard · 20/03/2023 09:15

DD is 3 and left to her own devices she normally sleeps in until 8:30-9:00. She goes to bed late though. DS is 1 and he wakes around 8, sometimes a little earlier.

NatalieH2220 · 20/03/2023 21:34

Usually around 7am

2&6

shouldhavetakenmorenotice · 20/03/2023 22:04

DS 9 up at 7 weekdays.

Weekends is a mystery as he has a cat like ability to get downstairs and in front of the tv without waking us.

SallyWD · 20/03/2023 22:22

DD is 12 and has to get up at 6 for school. At the weekends she'll lie in until 9/9.30 ish. DD is 10 and usually gets up around 6.45 and just amuses himself.

Louise295 · 20/03/2023 22:26

Both of mine (3&9) I would say on average between 7-730.
9 year old would entertain herself until whenever we woke but 3 year old demands food 😂
It used to be 6-630 but they're learning 😂
