Sending old passport back

I’ve just renewed my passport online, so I need to send my old passport back to them. I will do this recorded delivery tomorrow, I just wondered if I need to put anything in with it, like a note with my renewal number on it or something? Or do I just send it on it’s own? The website didn’t say.

Check your junk mail as I had emails at every stage of the process, including saying where to send the passport to.

Alternatively, if you log into the passport account with your PEX number it should provide the address.

There are different passport offices so it's no use giving you the address as it might not be the right office - one of my DS's that I renewed recently had an address in Hemel Hempstead whereas my when I renewed my other DS's passport it had to be sent to Peterborough.
