It is lovely to have a choice - (that sounds passive aggressive, but I genuinely mean it!).

Pastadanca · 15/03/2023 14:32

Good for you, but for those who want to but didn't want to be essentially penalised for doing so it's good news.

DoorstoManual · 15/03/2023 14:34

Several years of ill health and some forward planning for our retirement (some by luck and some by judgement) helped form my opinion.

I never thought I would retire, but here I am at 60 and the thoughts of going back to work does not appeal at all. Who would have thought it. I mean that genuinely.

Dear Jeremy

I haven't been able to stop working in the first place. I'm 63.

Yours, #I'm still working😴

DoorstoManual · 15/03/2023 14:35

It was meant to be a light hearted two fingers to Jeremy Hunt, I didn’t set out to annoy anyone apologies if I have.

Dear Jeremy Hunt

"DP would love to be back at work but he is over 50 and all the re-training/upskilling in the world will not help if employer's are refusing to offer him a job when he already has the relevant skills and experience for those he's applied for"

Yours, #annoyed.

Stillcountingbeans · 15/03/2023 15:07

Dear Jeremy,
I love my work, and as it is desk-based I will probably keep it up till I am about 75. Never mind anyone else - I am still here.
Hugs and kisses.

(sarcasm alert)

Why not just email him? Pretty sure he’s not browsing active threads on mumsnet.

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/03/2023 15:18

Dear Jeremy

When I was 18 and your predecessor Nige was chancellor retirement age was 60 for women. I still plan on retiring at that age.

Dear DoorsToManual, your reticence to contribute to Britannia's glorious future has been noted. I am shocked and appalled. PS Mumsnet is great fun isn't it? I shall browse more often.

Bunnyfuller · 15/03/2023 15:21

Dear Jeremy,

too late for me on the childcare, and thanks to you lot my workplace pension has been raided and you’ve added 7 years to my retirement age. So, no offence, but Fuck you.

Old Lawson had had too much spaghetti putanesca and was in a carb stupor. "Nigel the Nosh" we used to call him. A true pasta fiend.

LlynTegid · 15/03/2023 15:26

Regardless of personal circumstances as to whether or not you have retired, the Budget will do nothing to change that decision.

If you want to increase the workforce size, better off having lower numbers going to university, and/or doing a deal with the EU similar to Norway.

DoorstoManual · 15/03/2023 15:30

@Meandfour

Neither do I.Grin

Quit nursing this year at 49 years old. Have enough savings to last me til 55 when I get my pension. I work part time (not healthcare related but still helping people with a skill. I would rather die than work in healthcare ever again). Might try one of Jeremy Hunts boot camps.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/03/2023 15:35

Has Jezza hoicked the amount I can put into my pension after accessing it, or did it stay at £ 4k a year?

LoveBluey · 15/03/2023 15:36

Dear Jeremy,
Cheers for introducing extra funded childcare to start at the same time my youngest starts school so I see zero difference.

I'm actually really pleased they've finally extended funded nursery hours but also gutted to have missed out.

Spendonsend · 15/03/2023 15:36

Dear Jeremey,
I am looking forward to swimming in my community pool, when i retire.

Fifi0000 · 15/03/2023 15:42

Dear Jeremy you have already added on 7 years of retirement to women. I'm relatively early in my working life and I expect you want the plebs to work to death so no pensions to be paid out.

IClaudine · 15/03/2023 15:47

Dear Jezza

Many of us who are 50+ and not in employment are actually working. In my case as a full time carer for £69.70 per week. Now do eff off.

Thelnebriati · 15/03/2023 15:50

Dear Jeremy, it must be nice being so rich you never have to worry about disability. Your lot moved the goalposts for PIP, made it harder to claim as well as qualify, and now you made PIP the standard for disability benefits.
