And other terms that (probably irrationally) irritate the hell out of you.

These are my two. I think spenny just takes the edge for me. I've heard it so many times, just today!

Fully expecting to be told I need new things to be irritated by etc, but this is only supposed to be lighthearted.

What are yours?

My young person work friend uses spenny, in fact I pick up all sorts of slang from her. I do love modern slang!

I managed to invent a whole new word at the weekend when my brain mashed together chocolate animals and made chocomals. It is now an official word in our house 😂

ScroogeMcFuck · 14/03/2023 17:58

I’ve just finished binge watching Kath and Kim and only worked out on the last episode that ‘exy’ means expensive 🙄

I’m using it with impunity now to wind DS and DP up.

OneFrenchEgg · 14/03/2023 18:13

What is menty b or nervy b ??

Wolfiefan · 14/03/2023 18:16

Mental breakdown. Or nervous breakdown.
These are grim.

Bare

My daughters boyfriend said he didn't like Christmas as "bare people come round". I said what? As in naked? Or dressed as bears? No, it means "lots of" apparently 🙄

😆

LuxuryWoman2020 · 14/03/2023 16:07

Ah, cost of living. Oh dear

These are so funny 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2023 18:23

I work with a much younger colleague who uses a lot of these phrases 😂
One day last week I had a go and my computer, turned to her and said, “this is so shit.” She replied with one word. “Facts.”
She uses spenny and other very random works. Peek being one of them. (Peak? Pique? Not a clue what it means 🙈 - I think I guessed from the rest of the sentence that it means bad but I can’t be sure now)

Can you use it in a sentence?

I have fo sho used most of these ironically but spenny I learnt from an elderly cockney relative who had been using it since pre ww1. Most of the others were bare pops in the early 00s Norf Landan middle class teenagers. Not platty jubes, obvs.

PinkArt · 14/03/2023 19:01

I'm early 40s and have heard/ used spenny for the best part of a decade. That one isn't new.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2023 19:15

@Crumpledstilstkin she uses it as a sentence in itself 😂.
me: the coffee machine is making a weird noise.
her: peak

but also i suspect it means bad as she told me something crappy the other day and finished it by saying, “it’s so peak.”

However it might mean something good as she said that her mum had bought her some peak makeup 🤣 I suppose it could also be bad makeup?!

anyway, she’s a lot of fun and we laugh so much most of the day, it’s just like learning a new language!!

Amispringy · 14/03/2023 20:12

Im on twitter and have learned all sorts of young person talk

Based
Ratio
Cope/copium

Splcam · 14/03/2023 20:21

One from Depop Drama (Instagram account) last week: inny wimmy.

Yes that is apparently International Women's Day.

SmugglersHaunt · 14/03/2023 20:24

My bad. Drives me insane

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 14/03/2023 20:30

I know it's not new but hate it when people say good things are "sick"

Crumpledstilstkin · 14/03/2023 20:49

@TheChosenTwo ooh that's a different use, I've only heard it being used like something that's at an extreme. So we've reached peak stuff is a big one just meaning it's all got a bit out of hand. Young people eh 🤣

That's sooo lazy. And then they have to explain what it is anyway 🙈

I'm on twitter and have no idea what the above means! 😂

WimbyAce · 14/03/2023 22:15

Hate it when people say " I am legit doing ......"

WimbyAce · 14/03/2023 22:19

See also "lowkey"

CryptoQueen · 14/03/2023 23:03

I saw “sketty” for spaghetti the other day, and it annoyed me far more than was necessary.

My children use terms like Peak and Ratio. I will occasionally use them to embarrass the offspring when they are with their friends.

Amispringy · 14/03/2023 23:13

@WimbyAce

Based. Apparently you've done or said a really good thing

Ratioed. I think when the number of negative comments outweighs the likes on a tweet. Usually used for Russian diplomats tweets

Cope. Deal with it. Get over it.

I love the sound of your work colleague! I wish I worked with her

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2023 23:17

It's SPENDY, surely? It's IS spendy, people are just mistaken being a bit thick!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2023 23:29

**it IS
