Did anyone else have this transfer thing when they were a kid?

Because DH hasn't got a clue but he's in his 50's.

I don't know what it's called but I'd love to get some for my kids.

It would be pictures of letters on a something that was similar to thick tracing paper. You would place it, picture down, onto some paper and rub a pencil on the back of it and the picture would go onto the paper.

Ive Googled "transfers" "paper transfers" "paper picture transfers" etc and nothing even close is coming up.

Does anyone know what I mean or what I could type in to see if they still exist?

Oh this is giving me a flashback to a lovely childhood memory. I remember you used to get booklets with these transfers and you could place them anywhere, eg the booklet was jungle themed and the transfers were lions and giraffes and elephants and monkeys... or big top theme with circus transfers. Good memories Grin

Definitely transfers. Remember it well.
sometimes there was a “background scene” on card for you to choose where the transfers went (forest/underwater/space/fairyland)
Seem to remember Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck ones too?
Etch a sketch is something completely different.

We had these when j was young too

Perhaps you're looking for Action Transfers?

You can still buy these. I bought DS (age 6) a Spiderman book in The Works that was transfers with the plastic stick and you could lay out the characters on landscapes.

Only cost a couple of quid and his reaction was like it was magic Grin

Yes. The letter ones were called letraset. We just called the picture ones transfers as far as I recall.

Nailed in the first answer!

Lots on Amazon! They're still very popular in France, they're called décalcomanies

I had the fashion design wheel, can't remember if it was original or a knock off but we got it from a car boot. I luffed it and made so many different outfits on it. You could combine 5x tops with 5x bottoms and 5x hairstyles, and the sixth piece of the wheel was different textures which you could click in and out (I think?) I remember roses and spots. So you could choose to have your outfit textured or not as well as choose colours.

Nail transfers were amazing, I bought some nail stickers the other day just for the nostalgia Grin

Aaah this was the exact one that I had. So I misremembered the texture bit, and it was 6x tops, bottoms and hairstyles.

Yes! I try and explain it to people and they look at me like I have two heads though

You always got them from a McDonald's party!
