How cold is your house?

I've just come in no central heating on at the moment and looked at the thermostat and cannot believe it's only 10.7 degrees in my house it's bloody freezing. cannot afford to put the heating on during the day so I tend to wait until the evening when the dc are home to switch it on for a few hours so I'm sat here in my coat and hat! we've not even got the snow here where I am must be cold in the snowy areas. So just out of interest how cold is your house?

17c, got the heating on
Tempted to switch it off though as my smart meter has hit £6, I've also got a heated airer on

19 degrees in my sitting room. I'm wfh today so the hearing has been on more than usual. I also have an oil filled radiator beside my desk. It was 14 degrees yesterday morning when I came downstairs- garden was covered in snow!

Flossflower · 09/03/2023 18:04

22 degrees. I know this is irresponsible, but I feel the cold. It is this temperature all day but goes off at 11 and comes on at 7.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/03/2023 18:08

Dunno but D's is in shorts and t shirt with no heating on.

I was boiling last night, no heating except the menopause...

Parky04 · 09/03/2023 18:10

13 degrees, no heating on, but am very cosy under my electric throw!

Okunevo · 09/03/2023 18:12

14 as the heating is on, 10 this morning without.

CeeJay81 · 09/03/2023 18:14

Heating on at 18 but feels warmer in the lounge. Normally don't have the heating on all day but it's so cold today and We've had snow day here. I think the smart meter will hit £10 by end of the day, usually its between £6 and £8. I don't mind, as long as its the exception and it's not like that every day.

Rewind20Years · 09/03/2023 18:14

House is always about 13’
With heating on, it will take 6-7 hours of the heating to be on to reach 20’
Very cold house

notangelinajolie · 09/03/2023 18:17

19.5 and I can't get it any higher. The thermostat is set to 21 but that's never going to happen after our builder's crappy attempt at fitting new windows. We have thick blankets up everywhere but the cold still gets through.

DidyouNO · 09/03/2023 18:21

21oC. It's on almost constantly because the house is very old and not well insulated and we live in Scotland 😂

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 09/03/2023 18:22

According to Hive 14 degrees
I've put the heating on

crimsonlake · 09/03/2023 18:23

Arrived home to the balmy temperature of 7 degrees, my house is cold.

DuvetDownn · 09/03/2023 18:35

19, I have the heating on between 17 and 18 during the day at 19 until 10pm. Any warmer and I fall asleep.

alwayscheery · 09/03/2023 19:55

10 degrees in most of the house. Sitting room is 19 degrees with a log fire and a few pierces of coal.
Electric blankets on all the beds.

@TheNoodlesIncident

My hands are cold to the touch but not yet painful.

Have you tried wrist warmers or fingerless gloves (there's a hole for your thumb and the hand part covers the palm and back of the hand which I find gets really cold. I think some people use cashmere fingerless gloves (love cashmere as it's light but very warm), but I've got cheapo ones from Amazon which also work well. 🌹

That's a lovely thoughtful suggestion, thanks. I do have those, they've come in handy for going round shops that have their heating turned right down too

It was 8.4 degrees when I got up this morning and now, after six hours of having the heating on the highest it will go, it’s risen to a mighty 14.2. Heating is still on and cranked up to highest it will go. Smart meter is at over £12 for the day. I’ve got thermals on.

DanceMonster · 09/03/2023 20:34

19 degrees, as that’s what my heating is set to.

Gosh, if I had my heating on high, ( never put it higher than 22°), my lounge would be toasty warm within an hour and the rest of the house shortly afterwards.

Installing a new, more efficient boiler five years ago was the best thing I did.

As it’s so cold outside and I’ve just washed my hair in the shower, I’ve just turned my thermostat from 18° which has been fine all day, to 20° while I read in bed. Then it will go off overnight.

After reading most answers i so agree with you, im also a lucky one who is able to have 22/23 in my house, both upstairs and downstairs mostly 24/7. For health reasons i can not survive at only 16 degrees regardless of warm clothing i wear, i just bought my first home so heating bills is at first for me (rented studios all inclusive before), luckily even with heating on most of time i have around 280£ a month for gas (3 units a day), electric is very little as its just me in the property. I noticed big diffrence in retaining heat when its double digits at night so im hoping a few weeks i can start using timer for heating!
