Full moon.

Half moon.

Total eclipse.

Do not, I repeat, do not dunk into a cup of tea

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 08/03/2023 22:12

Yes of course 😄 and my husband who is normal in most other ways doesn't know what I'm talking about. It really makes me wonder what he was doing in 1999 and whether he watched any tv at all!

FlutterbButterfly · 08/03/2023 22:13

DaltWisney · 08/03/2023 21:47

No, I'm too busy neatly and painstakingly nibbling away the chocolate layer to reveal the jelly centre, and then peeling the jelly away very satisfyingly from it's sponge base. I eat the jelly in one go, but slowly turning it around in my mouth so I can really savour that prize I worked for. Then I bash down the sponge in one quick gobble.

I like to get a 3 course meal out of my jaffa cakes.

I've never been into the 'moon' thing.

Ermmm, exactly this ! 😅

flowerexpress · 08/03/2023 22:16

I don't want to derail the thread, but on the subject of jaffa cakes, anyone else in mourning for the aldi essentials ones - you got a dozen for around 30p! Those were the days!

Asda smart price were the best - I can't find those anymore 😭

PuppyMonkey · 08/03/2023 22:26

1999 indeed. Shock

I seriously think they should bring it back.

CatOnTheChair · 08/03/2023 22:27

Nope.
I do the opposite to @DaltWisney eat the sponge first, pick the chocolate off, then savor the jelly!

HeartshapedFox · 08/03/2023 22:38

Every time 😂 I might have also made my kids watch the ad on YouTube so they knew what I was on about.
OP was this thread prompted by a Buzzfeed article today, something along the lines of “Greatest adverts of all time”? I was pleased to see this one at number 1.
I’d love to know what the person who wrote it makes of its enduring appeal. And if Jaffa cakes have ever considered reprising it…

HeartshapedFox · 08/03/2023 22:40

I mean it’s just so daft! Why do people love it so much?
(saying that as someone who also loves it)

Dibbydoos · 08/03/2023 22:52

So many ways to eat them esp as you have a full packet to get through!

Sad how small they are these days though, it's so hard to eat the chocolate off them, then the orange jelly and finally the sponge!

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/03/2023 23:06

Justmuddlingalong · 08/03/2023 22:06

OMG! That advert is from 1999.

Nope you are wrong, it really wasn’t 24 years ago, it really wasnt

i absolutely do full moon for the first half of the pack doing the voice

the second half I nibble round the edges then eat the middle bit

WinterMusings · 08/03/2023 23:15

You're All Unreasonable.

they're disgusting things, I'd sooner rather the box

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/03/2023 23:19

@WinterMusings I was going to say get off here with your negativity but to be fair I haven’t tried the standard ones for years so you might be correct

I did try the cherry ones recently and was really ill with stomach upset after scoffing them

EVHead · 08/03/2023 23:19

Every time! I even say it when I see Jaffa Cakes in the supermarket. 😂

This is what I do!! 🤣

JeimeHonfUcoim · 08/03/2023 23:56

no because that's totally the wrong way to eat a jaffa cake.

first I eat the sponge
then I eat the disc of orange jelly
then I eat the chocolate

if all 3 are still full perfect circles then I am extra-satisfied, but this takes a lot of practice.

Redglitter · 09/03/2023 00:16

No. The female in that advert annoyed the hell out of me

AlwaysLatte · 09/03/2023 01:45

Bite round the edges leaving the orange disk area only.
Me too!

PuppyMonkey · 09/03/2023 07:10

Didn’t see a Buzzfeed no, was inspired by my colleague bringing a packet in. Half of us did the total eclipse routine and the others were Hmm

Nah, I'm too busy thinking about the cake vs biscuit debate.

I think QI solved this one years ago!

Biscuits go soft when stale.
Cakes go hard when stale.

JunkinDonuts · 09/03/2023 07:31

Am I the only one who shoves the whole lot in without biting it first?😳

I came to write exactly this!

And me. Except I eat the sponge before I eat the jelly.

Deathraystare · 09/03/2023 08:38

@PlainJanePerfect ·
None, the combo of chocolate and orange is gag inducing. I thought it would come with age- I still can't even sniff it.

Now see anything else chocolate and orange would be vile but Jaffa cakes are somehow different! It started with Terry's orange one Christmas. Mum gave my middle brother and I a Terry's orange but not my younger brother. For some reason we wanted to make him feel bad for not having one so we both rammed it down our necks so to speak in front of him and since then, I only have to hear the words "Terry's Orange" and I feel nauseous!

Deathraystare · 09/03/2023 08:41

Oops. Forgot to answer the original question. I hear the half moon etc in my head but if I was in a classroom/nursery, I would not have time to say those words, I would have consumed them too quickly! Loved that advert!

I think QI solved this one years ago!

Biscuits go soft when stale.
Cakes go hard when stale.

Depressingly I believe it was VAT specialists who solved that one. Different rates of tax for biscuits/cake, so it needed to be decided which was which.

It’s the most exciting VAT event ever so trust me if you give a tax specialist a Jaffa cake they WILL tell you about it.
