Do you eat what you want?

Just wondering how many of you eat what you want, when you want on a regular basis - or if you tend to view food in terms of what you can/can't, should/shouldn't indulge in?

Was just wondering as I know so many people who have been on some sort of diet for most of their lives and wondering if anyone is really immune from this? Or do some people really not think twice about what they eat - I mean in terms of "guilt" and feeling like there's a right or wrong way to eat.

Every waking thought I have is consumed by what I’m eating. I have a history of eating disorders and my life is a constant tension between being desperate to eat and desperate not to eat at any given time.

Tubbyinthehottub · 06/03/2023 20:47

I eat what I want, which is quite a lot of sugary snacks, crisps, wine. But my actual dinners are reasonably healthy most of the time.

LubaLuca · 06/03/2023 20:49

No, I'm prone to fatness due to shortness and greediness. I have to be mindful and don't eat lots of the things I'd really like to.

Want2beme · 06/03/2023 20:50

I envy anyone who can eat what they want without feeling bad about it or gaining weight. I don't think I overeat, but my body obviously does😂.

I had to watch my weight from the age of 16, dieting strictly, (calorie counting), from that age to early 30s. Bloody nightmare!

butterfliedtwo · 06/03/2023 20:52

No. After menopause I also put on weight much easier which I don't want, so I'm careful.

avocadotofu · 06/03/2023 20:53

Yes I eat what I want when I want. I generally eat a healthy vegan diet. I struggled with anorexia and bulimia in the teens/early 20s so this is a big achievement for me. I really don't think diets work.

moppa · 06/03/2023 20:35

No. I wish. Grin

I won't say how many calories I eat a day - as I normally get bashed on here for it - but I'm very strict with what I eat.

I'm a size 8.

I would love to be able to eat as much as I want, but sadly I can't. It makes me very sad.

If I'm going out for dinner, I don't eat all day and I limit what I eat the next day to balance.

Go onnnnn... 1200 or less?

dollypartin · 06/03/2023 20:54

I eat what I want of "good" groups. I try to limit sugary and salty/oily things like chips as it's just not healthy. I'm not on a diet, I view it more as what's healthy long term or not healthy to eat too much of

bobby81 · 06/03/2023 20:55

I eat what I want whenever I want it & I always have. I genuinely like fruit & veg so my diet isn't terrible although I have a very sweet tooth & eat chocolate every day. I don't eat meat though & hardly ever drink alcohol. I'm about 8 and a half stone.

Elphame · 06/03/2023 20:55

I eat what I want when I want it.

My weigh is stable and at the middle of the healthy range of the BMI - for what that’s worth. I’ve been veggie for over 30 years now so most of the fast food is off the menu as I avoid as much of the ultra high processed foods as I can and anything with artificial sweeteners in it. Lots of veggies and dairy but not much fruit as I’m not that keen on it nor do I like pizza much.

I had a lovely cream filled apple turnover this afternoon with my cup of tea but that’s not something I would do everyday.

doadeer · 06/03/2023 20:57

Yes I eat what I want but I try to have mindful balance overall. I'd never deprive myself of a slice of cake but it wouldn't be every day. The next day I'd up the veg.

ShellsPebbles · 06/03/2023 20:58

Yes I eat what I want when I want. I don’t really eat meat but it’s purely because I don’t like it.

LimeCheesecake · 06/03/2023 20:58

Nope. If I just ate what I wanted I’d look like Violet Beauregard after she ate that gum.

if you read this thread it’s a perfect example of the issue with “oh I eat whatever I want”, generally what they want to eat is what you would call a restricted diet.

what I want to eat is chocolate and cake, chips and cheese and fatty greasy nutritionless-yet-delicious crap. What I choose to eat is whole grains and quality meat and a range of vegetables and fruit. I choose to be hungry sometimes. It’s a bit shit I can’t be magically thin in an effort free way.

Borris · 06/03/2023 20:58

No because I want to eat family sized bars of chocolate, cheese on toast, bags of crisps, chocolate fudge cake ... 3 slices.

I try to eat healthily all day and have a little treat in the evening. I'm a little overweight but not too bad.

WaddleAway · 06/03/2023 20:58

No. I had a period of eating what I wanted and I crept up to a size 14, so I stopped! I wouldn’t say I constantly diet, or that i feel guilt or anything like that, I’m just mindful of what I eat as I don’t want to gain weight again.

Cobey · 06/03/2023 20:59

I go through cycles of binging and starving. I eat what I want for a while, then I start to gain weight, so I cut right back to lose the weight. Then when I get thin I can’t maintain the willpower to deprive myself any more, so I go back to eating what I want and I get fat again.

LemonInaMug · 06/03/2023 21:02

I eat what I want when I want and not proud of it, it’s not always healthy and sometimes I’m not even hungry but will stick biscuits into my mouth. I can order a takeaway multiple times a week and then not order for weeks. I can eat a few bars of chocolate a day then not eat any for a few days running. It depends on my mood and hormones and it all fluctuates as do my eating habits.

Bingoisthebestnotbluey · 06/03/2023 21:03

Yes, but I shouldn’t as I need to lose weight

Zola1 · 06/03/2023 21:03

I'm vegetarian. I don't eat whatever I want, as that would be pizza and cake all day every day, and cheesy chips, and crisps.. etc. I have to have some sort of rules 😅

VeryDiamondy · 06/03/2023 21:04

She probably eats 1000 calories a day.

Casilero · 06/03/2023 21:05

I do eat what I want but I'm another ex anorexic so my appetite is shot to fuck. And even now after all these years as soon as I get stressed I cannot swallow food - a control thing no doubt - so when I'm hungry, I eat, and I don't worry about calories.

ThePoshUns · 06/03/2023 21:06

I do but I'm more drawn to healthy food, so don't crave things like chocolate or fried food.
I also exercise.

Doje · 06/03/2023 21:07

I wish. I love ALL the food. I know what healthy meals look like so I eat that and I enjoy it. But I'd also like to eat sausage rolls and crisps and spoonfuls of Nutella and croissants. I do eat them, but not in the volumes I'd like. But I'm active, and not overweight so it works for me. Everything in moderation....

Kitchenette · 06/03/2023 21:07

Yes, but I take “what I want” to mean “what I decide” rather than “every passing fancy”.

WaddleAway · 06/03/2023 21:07

VeryDiamondy · 06/03/2023 21:04

She probably eats 1000 calories a day.

Who?
