There's no way we can cut back any further to allow it to happen
Very depressing as we only had a very short break in the UK last year
Really starting to feel like life is miserable for the kids

Book ahead on ryanair, only take the free small bag, stay in a hostel and book out a family room....we do this about 6 times a year....cheap city break...budapest, krakow, wroclaw, barcelona, lisbon.

It's not miserable for me either but surely you understand what teenagers are like? They see other people from school having lovely holidays and would love to go abroad to nice hotels and water parks /theme parks etc but year on year they can't because we can't afford it

You're not alone OP. I don't have teens to entertain but I still wish we could afford to take DS(9) somewhere on a plane. Just having to get passports renewed would be almost £300. So every year we go down to Devon for a few days. It's within our budget and DS enjoys the break. It's only lately he's been saying he wants to go to see the Eiffel Tower but with everything as expensive as it is now, I just can't see it happening.

OP - I can completely understand where you are coming from. It's hard for your teenagers DC.

We couldn't afford one this year either. FIL paid for us to all go away for one night to an amusement park, and my mum is paying for me and DD to go on the train to go to my cousin's confirmation party, which is kind of a weekend away but not exactly a holiday, and most of it will be spent on the train.

But our summer holidays are almost over (back to school on Wednesday) and honestly, my children have still enjoyed the summer, just relaxing. Holidays away aren't everything, can still have lovely enjoyable times at home.

Have you ever heard of stay-cations. There may well be lots of days out to do in your local area X

Why you feeling bad about it now? As in was your situation different before and were you able to afford holidays previously?

If not, what have you done differently to your parents so you can afford these luxuries for your kids?
I don't mean to be unkind but do believe that life doesn't just happen to you and you are in charge of your future to a large extent ........
